wanting to help someone out

Post by bubbyjane » Mon Aug 26, 2013 6:14 pm

My husband passed away in mid July. I am devastated, sad, bereft, empty.......that said, he had a 2 year old c-pap machine and lots of tubes and masks and filters all sealed in original plastic. I would like to sell it, keeping the cost low, to help someone who might not have insurance or be able to afford a new one. I have all the paperwork. If anyone is interested please contact me, or if you know someone who might be interested. Thanks.

I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my wife to cancer when she was in her mid-thirties. For me, the only thing that helped at all was time and what you are doing - trying to lessen someone else's suffering. The pain doesn't go away but you feel less like you are on fire all the time. It never goes away, i miss her every day and every time i read a book or see a movie, i think, " wow, toni would have really loved this". But in a way, that's good, the world shouldn't ever go back to normal when it has lost a good person. The pain does get tolerable over time - as much as you might not be able to believe it now. And thanks for trying to help others when you are in such pain yourself.

Thank you for responding. We were a 2nd marriage and had 5 glorious years together...to short. I barely function. Each day is another nightmare. And, I teach and school starts on Wednesday,
And I can't imagine how I am going to manage this. We were total soul mates. I can barely sleep. Going to sleep is horrible, waking up is horrible. It takes me half the day just to get my act together to try to accomplish something. People say the dumbest things. I cry a lot.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

My sympathies. Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things we go through as humans.

How great that you found this board. I am sure someone will come along who will be interested: can you look at the name and model number on the machine (it might be right on top or it could be a series of numbers on the bottom) and post it here? I imagine you would like people to Private Message you if interested?

Ignore anything anyone tells you that doesn't feel helpful. What you are going through is Unique, there has never been and there never again will be 2 people with the exact same relationship and experiences you had. So you have to suffer this loss alone. Even if others are suffering this loss too, your perspective and pain is unique and just ignore people who say they know what you are feeling or tell you what you should do if it doesn't seem to work for you. FOr sleep I found that they best way for me was not to try to sleep - i used to put really light stuff on the dvd while i laid in bed and tried to let it distract me - it was a harry potter video, i rewatched it so many times i think i could still give you the dialogue - and sometimes i would doze off but it's true that the second i woke up the pain was right there. And i didn't try to think how i was going to survive this longterm, i just kept trying to get through the next hour. It will get less horrible although i know that it is impossible to believe that now.

thank you. I can't believe a total stranger knows exactly what I'm going through. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I think that is the one thing most people don't get....that I have to go through this alone. I do take melatonin to help with sleep, and I diffuse lavender in my bedroom. It helps I think. but I stay up late because he's not there and I don't want to sleep. I wake up during the night, and early in the morning. I am tired all day. but I can't change it. so I just sleep when I can for as long as I can and deal with the lack.

thank you, thank you!!!

Hi BubbyJane,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I can't imagine what it is like to lose a spouse/soul-mate. To help you sleep, may I suggest get some Sleepytime tea, in the supermarket coffee/tea aisle, made by Celestial Seasonings I think. Drink a cup when you are ready for bed, usually kicks in about 15 min after finished drinking it, hopefully will help you to rest a little. Melatonin taken with it might intensify the effect, I don't know, so I would just try them together on a night when not needing to get up early in case it works well.

I will be praying that God will wrap His arms around you and give you peace and strength.

How much are you asking for the machine and supplies, and what exactly do you have? The machine should have a name and maybe model number and serial number on it, maybe on the bottom. If there is humidifier attached to the machine, be careful not to turn the machine over until you have taken the water out, since it doesn't go well with the electronic innards. The masks might have the name on them or on the packages if they are still in packages. Thank you for thinking of those who are less fortunate at this sorrowful time. Pictures might help if you can add some, and I'm sure somebody could use the items at a lower price than the stores charge.
