feeling so groggy

Post by dema620 » Sun Aug 25, 2013 6:42 pm

Hi All,
I have been compliant with my cpap for a couple of months. Like a lot of newbies I hated the cpap and thought I would never get used to it. I started wearing it again and could only sleep for a couple of hours before ripping it off. I made a couple of adjustments by trading in my nasal mask for nasal pillows. I also had the DME up the pressure on my ramp time. Making those two adjustments helped out quite a bit as I didn't feel so claustrophobic. I read so many threads that were helpful, especially Pugsys pointers, and I feel like my info on sleepyhead is pretty good. Although I still don't really understand leaks and what is acceptable.
Can anyone please take a look at my report and give me any ideas why I am groggier than ever in the morning. I feel like I am sleeping so soundly that when I wake up I feel more fuzzy headed and tired than before. On a positive note, I no longer have headaches in the morning and I don't have gerd anymore.

I would appreciate any and all comments! Thank you. This forum is so useful!

I went for years feeling like I just dozed all night. After I started getting good therapy I have nights when I feel like I have slept too hard. I had nearly forgotten what that was like when I was younger and just had nights when I crashed and hardly moved all night and it took time to get going in the morning. I hope this makes sense.

The statistics you posted, show that you are sleeping 12-16 hours per day. That is very odd. Or did I misunderstand them?

By the way, I am in the same boat you are. I have been using CPAP (well, APAP in my case) for about one month and I feel exactly the same as before. Very groggy when I wake up. But my AHI numbers are very good with the therapy. I just get by with drinking lots of caffeine, like I always have.

SleepyHead version 0.9.1
That is an old outdated version with a few bugs in it and one of them is doubling the hours slept. We call it the double session bug.

Go here and get version 0.9.3 and install it after uninstalling the older version. Don't worry about your old data because those reports are kept in a SleepyHead folder in MyDocuments and that folder is untouched by the uninstall.
I think your hours of sleep will probably correct themselves with the latest version.

Do you take any meds even OTC? If so, what is the name, dosage and time you take it?
Is your sleep fragmented...wake up often?

Hi and thanks for the replies. I am on an antidepressant ( I have been for 20 years) No other medication. The grogginess almost feels like when you take a nap and you think you are going to feel better but you feel more tired and fuzzy headed than if you were to stay awake.
Also, I have tried to update my sleephead and every time I do, it fails...does anyone else have this problem?
I was hoping to feel much more alert and refreshed in the morning but instead I kinda feel hungover. (and I'm not even drinking)

SleepyHead won't update because your computer likely has Windows Vista or Win 7 it and it won't allow SleepyHead to update because SleepyHead wasn't installed with administrator privileges.
There is a way to fix that issue but you won't be getting the SleepyHead version that fixes the double session bug.

Install the new version 0.9.3 and you bypass the work around to get the update to go through and it fixes the double session bug.

Antidepressants......well known for causing daytime grogginess, fatigue, sleepiness, etc.
Research the side effects of whatever med you are taking and I bet that some of your daytime symptoms are listed there.
Some are much worse than others and dosage also affects the side effects.

first thought: did you Uninstall the older version of Sleepyhead or are you just trying to update it. I believe Pugsy has said before that you have to uninstall first. If you have never done this before, go to your start menu, then control panel, then programs and select uninstall a program........

second thought: could you be coincidentally groggy from allergies? its big time hayfever season here...just a thought

otherwise, i bet it will pass as your brain and body heal with CPAP.

Regards, Oak

I am not sure but I don't remember if version 9.1 is actually an installed version or not. We went through so many Alpha versions that weren't I don't remember if 9.1 actually had an installer or not. I know it sounds weird but it has only been recently that Sleepyhead actually showed up in the programs feature to be uninstalled.

Since 9.1 and 9.3 are 2 totally different versions I don't think that the removal of 9.1 is necessary. Now if the 9.1 version had been updated to 9.2-1 and then using the Patch file updated again to 9.3...then we would likely be better off removing the older version...though I will admit I didn't. I just installed over it but it's cleaner if we can uninstall whenever we can.

Hi Oak and Pugsy,
I didn't get a chance to get on my computer last night but I believe I have to uninstall sleephead and try to reload. Thanks very much for the suggestions.
I do have some allergies so maybe that is what the grogginess is all about.
Oak, thanks for the support. I too feel like it takes your body and mind a while to heal. Call it sleep debt or not but I think when something like restful sleep has deprived your body and mind for so long, it will take some time. Like I said I no longer have bad headaches in the morning so that is a plus!
