Went to appt with sleep Dr discussed a few issues and picked up the RX, got copies of sleeps study and drove straight to the Apria office with few expectations. Was told right away I'd have to wait for approval from Group Health could take a few days... I said I'm here today...right now and if I need to call Group Health to speed this up I will. The receptionist says well I need a copy of sleep study, I hand her the folder with the copy, still warm. lol She makes a copy and says well you definitely qualify. I'll try to push this through as urgent. Few minutes later she says come back in 2 hours we'll get you set up. So 2 hours later I get there and they take me back to a room with a bed even for fitting. I watch a short video then the Respiratory Care Practitioner brings in the machine. She has been setting these up for 20+ years and her spouse uses one also so this was helpful to a newbie. She asks what type of mask I'm interested in and since I am a side/prone sleeper I had wanted to try a nose pillow design to start. After looking the 3 choices over I decided on the Opus model. I also mentioned I wanted to get another brand later on and that I'd read they don't carry it. She asked which one I said DreamWeaver they don't carry them locally but can get them so no problems there. Went home and put the mask on to get used to it seems my 2 dogs needed more getting used to it than I did. They barked at the noise it made without a hose attached for about 10 minutes. I had been severely tired all morning so I hooked it up and turned on the APAP and took a half hour nap at 5pm. Wasn't the best idea because it was a GOOD nap. Stayed up until 9 pm went to bed and wasn't in the least bit tired it's now 11:45 pm and I'm thinking this isn't going to be a good night. Got up and took a Melatonin and played on the computer for a half hour or so and was getting very tired. I put on my mask and hooked it up and i woke around 4 am face down in my pillow with a large air leak shifted the mask a bit and woke up at 5:15 feeling pretty good about the night. I installed Sleepyhead in the morning and looked at the data AHI's went from 34.6 in the study to 1.5 what a difference. I feel like I'm alive.
Thanks to all here on the forums with the great info and advice it has made this a much easier transition. I look forward to contributing on here as well.

Thanks - but I'm sure I'll have some trials and tribulations along the way. I was putting a lot of expectations on the first night probably didn't make it as easy as I could have but overall it was a good experience.

Welcome to the forum. You did your research, I am impressed. I think it is wonderful that you have adapted to the machine quickly. I have also found the transition to using the machine easy but I know many suffer.

Oh, we all have some bumps in the cpap therapy road at some time or other.
About a week ago I had one night where I couldn't even get 4 hours of sleep and I still don't know why. Sometimes stuff happens.
