Updates: Please give initial feedback/ Sleep study failure
Re: Sleep study failure
glad you are getting in for the second one so soon. i feel confident that you will get answers this time. be patient though, it takes a couple of weeks to get the test results, usually.

im paying out of pocket so I insisted having a 2nd one soon...but happy that it is not tonight so I will recover from my 2hr night !oak wrote:glad you are getting in for the second one so soon. i feel confident that you will get answers this time. be patient though, it takes a couple of weeks to get the test results, usually.
for the delay in the results, for some reason, I am naive and I think that I will be able to have some info from the lab tech....hehehe (didnt work on my 2hr night)
Re: Sleep study failure
Hi - I spoke too soon about sleeping with Trazadone (except for the symptoms I did have that disappeared the night I stopped taking it). I think I was looking at side effects and some would be counterproductive to being awake if you have untreated apnea (drowsiness, etc.), but if it helps some people sleep better, that's great.
Re: Sleep study failure
for mine, the tech said he couldn't give me any info that night ( had a split study with titration the same night), yet they faxed the prescription to a DME not of my choice. (i was mad about that but I did get the CPAP about a week after the sleep study {i made the appt-I with the DME -didn't wait for them to call ME}
the next step after that night was to have someone read tons of pages of data and score it. then, they sent it to a sleep doc i never spoke to who read the info and wrote the condensed report.
then, they sent it to my referring doc (took two weeks).
finally, i got to review the report from my referring family doc and got a copy.
i didn't know it but I could have gotten a copy after the two weeks directly from the hospital where the sleep center was, and before I saw my family doc, but it wasn't much more time so no biggie.
good luck!

Re: Sleep study failure
Thanks for clarifying, Julie. Trazodone is often prescribed for fibromyalgia, as it helps with the delta sleep stage issues those with fibro have.
Hubby is also on CPAP - has CA and uses Respironics M series Pro with c-flex.
Re: Sleep study failure
Unfortunately, your sleep tech is sworn to secrecy. Seriously, no tech in any sort of lab environment, x-ray, sleep, whatever, is technically allowed to give their opinion, correct as it may be. You will probably have to wait for your follow up appointment with your doc, as the good ones will take quite a bit of time with you, explaining your dx and issues as well s treatment. My doc let me set up that appointment before I even had the test, but it was for two weeks after the test.marcnhl wrote:

It took me three tests over 15 years to get dx. First I was told I had a suboptimal sleep pattern as well as confirming my fibromyalgia, which shows distinctive patterns in sleep studies. Next the guy kicked me out after about six hours because I couldn't sleep, either. (Should have raised holy heck and gotten my money back on that one.) Finally got a dx. I really don't know if I had it all along or not, because I have always had all sorts of sleep issues, insomnia, fibro, you name it. Hopefully you will have a much easier time getting to the bottom of your issues. Sleep well during your test!

very interesting and quite frankly strange that it might take several tests to get a dx...well of course, the human body evolves, so does the conditions..renatae wrote:Unfortunately, your sleep tech is sworn to secrecy. Oh, sorry. DME is short for Durable Medical Equipment Provider or Vendor.

Re: Sleep study failure
Mine was rough. I did sleep - about 4-5 hours, it was enough, but they're making me redo it, along with an MSLT the next morning. I'll be there almost 24 hours. I was kept awake by someone snoring in the next room and the tech coming in/out repeatedly.
They're not fun, but, gotta live with it to get the treatment.
Also OP, BEWARE YOUR DME. Be very very careful about what you pay for out of pocket. Some of it may end up in theirs.

Re: Sleep study failure
I had almost the same experience, I went to the place, was already all wired up and nervous, then they started gluing these probes all over me and then insisted I sleep on my back. Well, folks, I have never been able to sleep on my back, I am a stomach sleeper, so during my first 10h sleep study, I slept for a grand total of 38 minutes. For my second sleep study, I made sure I was tired. I stayed up for ~41 hours straight prior to the test, took in 0 caffene that entire time, and made sure I worked my butt off carrying boxes and moving equipment all day the day of the appointment. I was tired enough that I almost fell asleep in the lot waiting. got in there, they glues the sensors to me and poof, I was out like a light.. They got enough events in the first 2 hours to qualify me, so they woke me up, [not easy] rigged me up with the tightest cpap on the planet and poof, I was back asleep. I guess I understand why they rigged it tight, but I half expected a foot on my shoulder when she was tugging...
tl;dr Make sure you are tired when you go...

Re: Sleep study failure
I also didn't sleep enough and I was having a home study .
I was so concerned about getting to sleep the second time (I had to pay out of pocket for both studies) that I stayed up all night, about 9am the next morning I felt extremely tired but I was determined to stay up until nighttime thinking that I would then feel more tired. I couldn't have been more wrong, after 7pm I started waking up and became wide awake, I then stayed up until 6am the next morning, wore the device for an hour and couldn't sleep, so I removed it and fell to sleep. It wasn't until after staying up all night again that I managed to get enough hours sleep wearing the device.
I was then diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea. The funny thing is I didn't really feel any worse without the sleep compared to when I do sleep. There were times when I actually felt better.
Good luck with your next study .

Re: Sleep study failure
Hi guys,
Good one James
Update: 2nd study yesterday.
SAME thing as the 1st: hehehe! Even if I was not as nervous, just slept from 3am to 5, approx. So theyve got 2, 2-3hrs studies. Talked to the tech and she said she didnt see too much...told her no wonder, I wanted to sleep so bad that I slept on my side (usually im on back, cannot stay for long on the side, shoulder injuries...).
I have a feeling they didnt see anything...which, considering my symptoms, would be bad news...

Re: Sleep study failure
Question; i seem to have symptoms of low oxygen, but maybe not from apnea (more from nasal congestion and deviated septum).
Could they still recommend cpap? Would that be "uars"?
Thanks
Ps i have to wait 10 days to maybe have results, so ill have questions like that..
