What a deal!

Post by mrwatkin » Wed Aug 21, 2013 8:47 pm

So, I initially was going to get my BiPAP from some supply shop in the suburbs. They initially told me I'd be paying $1600. I get there and they say,

"Oh. The BiPAP (660) itself is $1600. The accessories will cost you another $300. Also the heated humidifier will cost you another $300, but you can't buy it outright. You have to rent it from us for $30/month until you own it. It's not our fault. It's the insurance companies that are making us do it that way."

That said, I was paying out of pocket because of my crap deductible. These guys were making things very expensive and difficult. While I sent the young lady away to inquire about buying the humidifier out-right, I whipped out my phone and checked a few prices on the Respironics 660. I found it instantly for $300 less (w/ humidifier). I then called my doctor's office and inquired about buying it online. They said to go for it and they suggested a few places. So, I walked out of the suburban rip off store. Next, I found http://www.directhomemedical.com. They price match and actually beat the price of the 660 with a DS760TS. I paid $1129 total for the auto BiPAP and heated humidifier w/ heated tube. That was amazing. I just thought I'd drop their name on here if none of you have heard of them. To save almost $800 bucks is bliss for me. I'll definitely sleep better at night (literally).

P.S. If there's anything I should know about the 760, please let me know. My setting right now is 17/11cm. The guys at the website configured it for me before sending it.

Our host cpap.com will also price match I believe, and their customer service is excellent.

It's the same story again and again on apnea forums. The way the normal system seems to work is that the DME's and Insurance companies, "Always get their man (or woman)", and that man (or woman) is you, and they shake you down and drain your pockets because they're dealing with someone else's money.

Buy one outright. Learn to set it. Use doctors for advice, and DME's for advice and supplies if they make it worth your while.

Good health is worth the price of a cpap machine.

Many people, seeking good sleep, willingly spend huge bucks on a mattress, to no avail;
but there are a lot of mattresses that cost more than the machine that gives me wonderful sleep,
and is likely saving my life. I'm so worth it.
Smart money is spent on health first; the rest follows.
