ResMed Quattro FX mask too large?

Post by MastrHiram » Mon Aug 19, 2013 8:14 am

Hi. As I've posted before, I've been having compliance issues with my Swift FX nasal pillows. I got fitted for a Quattro FX full face mask on Saturday. The therapist used the fitting template on me, and told me I was a "medium-and-a-half" and recommended I go with a large. I've tried it two nights now and have had HUGE leak problems. The mask is leaking along the sides in the middle around my cheeks. This and the fact that the mask feels big leads me to suspect that she gave me too big a mask. Do you think they'll give me a hard time trading it for a medium? Thanks.

I would think since they said a LARGE, that they should replace it, of course I'm not in charge!

Take your leak data with you when you go, and tell them that their recommendation does not work!

By all means, go for the Medium.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I switched to a QFX several months ago, and my RT fitted me for a Medium. I told him that I wanted a Large so that it would cup under my chin (traditional fitting warrants the bottom of the mask resting in the recess under your lip, but in my case, my mouth falls out of the bottom when it's so close to my lip). I added a homemade strap under my chin, connecting the two lower mask straps, to secure the mask low on my nose. It is perfect for me!

Obviously YMMV, but I have found both the Quattro FX and the Quattro Air to run small. Of course, one of my nicknames is Buckethead, so factor that in.

Those leaks may be due to the mask not being adjusted properly if you're accustomed to a nasal mask.
