Best way to sell apap

Post by rob2718 » Sun Aug 18, 2013 1:50 pm

I have a Resmed S9 apap that I used for a couple months and then gave up on. Do you guys have recommendations on how to resell?

Thanks,

Rob

Craig's list is one option. Another is to tell us if it is a S9 Escape Auto or a S9 Autoset, what the first 4 digits are on the serial number, and if anyone smokes in your home.

But your bigger decision is will you regret your decision when your apnea effects your health more and your insurance won't buy you another machine. Maybe you should store it until you are ready to start again. You have found a good resource now with this forum, we would be glad to assist you with your therapy.

My recommendation would be to NOT sell the machine and give the therapy another try.......or more.
Keep with it until you get it.

Obviously, it was prescribed to you for a reason.

Hi - why did you give up? Maybe your mask was never 'right' for you and you haven't tried other types (or sizes). Maybe the settings on your machine were wrong for you... or you didn't feel fantastic right off the bat, but you should remember why you were 'there' in the first place - because of a serious condition that impacts your life every single night (and/or daytime naps). Unless you've honestly found (and checked out with a new sleep study) another satisfactory therapy, you're cheating yourself of a decent future, maybe work issues, your kids or grandkids. Do give us a chance to help and tell us what went wrong or didn't go right and maybe we can help fix it.

It's a S9 Autoset. The first four digits are 2211. No one smokes in the home. It's a very clean home and I run my hepa filter constantly.

I tried a bunch of masks, pressure ranges, cpap, apap. I have mild/moderate apnea/hyponia and never felt any better. I always felt more tired and ended up ingesting air. I also cant keep my mouth shut with nose masks even with a strap. The machine recorded a significant amount of central apnea events, but the doctors I talked to didn't think much of it. They didn't put much faith in the machines data acquisition... the sleep study didn't indicate central sleep apnea.

Im slim and have tonsil hypertrophy. I'm going to try a tonsillectomy. Its not usually indicated but I think I'm an atypical case.

Thanks for your thoughts.

You can get more help here than most doctors are willing to give you. Your best bet is to learn how to properly use your machine with the help from the experts in cpap use on this forum.

There are a variety of options to consider. First thing that comes to mind is that possibly your pressures are set too high and this is causing the central events. Another is that a sleep study is only a snapshot in your life. If they forced you to lay a certain way to keep EEG sensors attached or if you didn't rest as soundly as you do in your own home, your sleep study numbers may not be as accurate as desired.

As you can probably guess, the folks here are more interested in your health than making a fast buck;
unlike the gang that sold you the equipment and then cast you into the wilderness.
Welcome, I hope you will stay. Most of us are reluctant to let you go down the drain,
as those paid to help you have shirked their duty.

There are a bunch of "clues" in your post:
Possible incorrect pressure settings
Needing to do nasal cleansing before bedtime (leading to mouth breathing - which could account for "centrals" being reported by the machine).
Possible LES (lower esophageal sphincter) or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) issues......connected to swallowing air.

Some of the problems you describe are quite familiar and are usually easily solved by the experts here. Many have had a very hard time adjusting to therapy and with multiple complications. In our case Wulfman, Pugsy and others guided me to successful therapy for my husband. It's an ongoing process. It's been 5yrs and my husband's health and well being have improved in so many ways with ups and downs along the way. It's not a good idea to let your sleep apnea go untreated. Have you read the success stories at the top of our home page? Think about it and good luck.

If you do want to sell it - I'm interested! I am desparately dealing with insurance red tape and am thinking of just buying one for myself. I can hardly function I am so tired these days - as a grad student I don't have much disposable income but I also don't have the time to lose dealing with the insurance and waiting, waiting, waiting ....

I'm curious-what do the first 4 digits of the serial # tell you?

First two digits tell you where it was manufactured. Digits 3 and 4 are the year. Which gives information about if the product is still under warranty.

And if you call ResMed & give them the Serial Number, they can tell you the EXACT date of manufacture (NOT just the year).

Same applies for the Humidifier.
