Temperature controlled radio frequency ablation

Post by Chester's Mom » Fri Aug 16, 2013 4:52 pm

or TCRFA~ Has anyone had this procedure or looked in to it? Sleep Apnea Centers of America (several locations) has info about it. I am wondering if might help with my CPAP (not even daring to think it might make CPAP unneeded) but maybe I could do away with the cervical neck collar.

I got this treatment 3 years ago due to my deviated septum. In the first few monthes after the procedure, i felt great and could breathe very well through my nose (i was a mouth breather before). However, after that, while I still breathed mainly through my nose, I felt that nose-breathing got more difficult and there would be days I really needed to mouth-breath. So in all, I think the result of the treatment is not really permanent, and while not all benefits are gone, I feel a little bit that it was not worth it. Now, I have never really used CPAP seriously since the operation so i cannot tell you how it helps with PAP

oh and i forgot to say that it does not help with apnea in anyway so this does not render cpap unneeded

Are you talking about radioablation of the tongue? I haven't heard of any other kind of radioablation.

Radioablation can be done on the nose too (as in my case). I wasn't aware that there is one for tongue until you brought it up In which case my experience would not be any helpful...

(I am the same person as benz42427. I forgot my password yesterday but wanted to answer first before I went through the procedure of retrieving the password. So I posted as a guest)

Interesting. Thanks. A lot of people have problems with the tongue falling back in REM and blocking the throat, including me (I also have a very small throat opening as viewed on x-ray). But apparently the tongue ablation procedure benefits are short-lived according to Dr. Li, the pioneer of the MMA procedure (Maxillomandibular Advancement). I have an apptmt. to look into getting the MMA because of my tongue and throat problems.
