Mirage Quattro VS Mirage Quattro FX?
Any big differences between these 2 except mostly the type of headgear?
Also, when I watched a You Tube video of someone explaining the Quattro FX, it looked like the side clips were rigid and really stood out from the face. Seems like these would really get in the way of a side-sleeper. Maybe they don't?
Thanks for your help with this.

Re: Mirage Quattro VS Mirage Quattro FX?
I've used both and prefer the Quattro FX by far. I like that there is nothing above the bridge of my nose or eyes. It feels lighter and easier to wear. The plastic part of the headgear that lies on the face doesn't stick out and I find it comfortable. I have had some leak issues trying to sleep on my side, but no worse than with the Mirage Quattro.

Thanks Snoozy.
Does it ever bother the bridge of your nose, or blow air into your eyes?
If you were to get a different mask, which one might it be?
I sleep on my side all the time. Would you say its not really made for side sleepers?
Thanks!

My wife could never get the FX to fit right. YMMV.

Re: Mirage Quattro VS Mirage Quattro FX?
I have used the Mirage Quattro, the Quattro FX and the Quattro Air. Each mask has it's advantages and disadvantages. Each person that uses them has a different curvature on their face so one will work better for each type of face. If you are lucky enough to have a DME with a on staff RT and a bed to test masks with. I would take my machine and plan on trying several. If your DME is only a mailer for supplies from your insurance company, it may be time to investigate what options you have in local DME firms.
Getting the right fit for each mask is key in my opinion. Having one too small means you end up with the bottom of it in your mouth during the night when you relax. Getting one too big means you end up having problems with leaks and pressure is exerted on your face where not intended. Then their is the issue of strap tightness. People feel differently about how much they have to tighten the straps and what percentage of leaks is acceptable.
If you are buying online, last time I looked cpap.com had free return insurance on the Quattro Air mask. I've tried it and actually love the mask. It may be a waste of time for you, but their is minimal financial risk in trying one with zero return insurance cost.
If you want to know more about pluses and minuses of each mask, let me know. But your experience is bound to be different than mine, so I'm leaving many of my thoughts out unless asked.

Re: Mirage Quattro VS Mirage Quattro FX?
I've worn both and the FX was much more comfortable. The bridge thingy on the Quattro really put a hurt on my forehead. I stuck it out with the FX for months but was constantly fighting leaks. The mask was comfortable, for the most part, and was the best FFM I used of the five different models I tried. I finally started taping my mouth shut and am now using nasal masks which are the most comfortable by far compared to FFM and I have had no leaks at all with the two different nasal masks I have tried so far (Wisp and Eson). If you are a mouth breather, and it doesn't bother you...consider mouth taping...it has made CPAP therapy finally work for me after six months of struggling with leaks (and now I sing the praises of mouth taping every chance I get ). Of course, everyone is different, but keep your mind open regarding all options. Good luck.

I have used the Quattro for 4 years...about 6 months ago I tried the FX and knew the minute I put it on that it wouldn't work for me....leaks and comfort.

Re: Mirage Quattro VS Mirage Quattro FX?
Thanks everyone!
As has been said, everyone can be so different, that you just never know which mask will make which person happy.
Shimon.........I've been taping my mouth for years, and it certainly helped. But my AHI is too high and I need to increase my pressure. But when I try to increase my pressure, it really hurts my sinuses (almost immediately). So I'm thinking I need a FFM. Plus, I'm really tired of taping.
Just curious......would increasing the pressure with a nasal mask bother one's sinuses less than with a nasal pillow? Seems like it might diffuse the pressure enough to make it tolerable....??
The reason I want to bypass the local Lincare is because when they open up a new mask to try......they expect you to buy it. Seems like they should have some test masks..........
That's one reason I want to go with cpap.com.

Each of the three Quattro masks are very good, high quality products but some people have better fit and comfort with some more than others. If I were you and I had to use Lincare or whatever because of insurance, I would demand a consultation with their on staff respiratory therapist and/or their office manager. No one using a DME should be forced to simply take a mask on a try-it-you-buy-it basis. They should have a 30 day return policy. Demand help and explain how you want to try each of these FF masks, because you are having problems with fit and need a FFM. Try each mask for no less than two weeks -- some need time to break in. Then return it and try the other until you decide on a favorite(s). It's a deliberate process. But do get rid of that tape.
Re: Mirage Quattro VS Mirage Quattro FX?
I have tried the Quattro, Quattro FX and Quattro Air. I hate the fact that the plain Quattro is big, heavy and clunky but I mainly hate what it does to my face and nose. But it is the one I keep coming back to because if I tighten it down enough I can at least make it work. The Quattro FX made me crazy because the attachment wings would ride right up into my eyes the second I applied pressure from my machine. I have never wanted a mask to work more for me than the Quattro Air-it's small, lightweight and very simple. But unfortunately even the large isn't large enough for me because after a period of time the mask rides up and my lower lip falls out of the mask with predictable results. If they ever make an XL I'm there. Meanwhile it's the plain ol' Quattro I guess.

Re: Mirage Quattro VS Mirage Quattro FX?
Everytime I rolled over, the Quattro FX leaked near my eyes or then at my cheeks. After dealing with it for about 30 days, I threw it across the room out of frustration.
I've successfully used the Quattro for about 10 months now. After I read the "Taming the Mirage Quattro" guidance on-line, I never really had any leak issues with it.
I got the Quattro Air right after it was released, I have minor issues with face farts after wearing the Quattro Air for about 4-5 hours.
so lately, I've been alternating between the Quattro and the Air. it all depends on my mood & work schedule on which one I use at night.

Dave, have you tried a mask liner?
