I just ordered a ResMed S9 auto set CPAP from online. While they have my prescription on file, they just sent me an e-mail saying they set my settings 4.0cm-20cm. Is this normal settings for an Autoset machine? Plus I am starting on having second thoughts if I ordered the right machine and/or brand? I thought it would be a great idea to upgrade from my S9 escape to the S9 Autoset, but have noticed many users on the forum using the PR System One REMStar 60 Series Auto CPAP Machine. Is there a big difference between the two? I'm just trying to get the magical nights sleep where I wake up full of energy the next day.
Thanks in advance for everyones help on this forum. I have been struggling for almost a year using cpap and have learned a lot from reading the comments in this forum.

Not the most knowledgable on this topic but just had this same problem . What I was told is. if you are comfortable with the way a brand of machine works with your breathing patterns Then stick with it. On the topic of pressures the lowest figure should be 2to 3 points lower then what your fixed pressure is . The upper limit isn't as critical as if you don't need it it won't go there. That's my understanding of what I have read here. At least you can have a good starting point to work from as you will be able to get all the data.
Re: S9 Autoset settings?
If your escape was purchased by insurance and they are buying your supplies, your ClimateLine hoses, filters, and humidifier tanks are identical. Staying with the same line allows this supply process to continue without questions. I believe it is like many products coke vs Pepsi, ford vs Chevy I have tried both and there is very little difference. If you already have a stockpile of supplies for one, I would stay with it.
I got my original S9 Autoset purchased by insurance. I purchased a replacement S9 VPAP Auto, then recently upgraded to S9 VPAP Adapt and stayed brand loyal for my machines. If I had started with Respironics I probably would have stayed there. But the machines are both going to provide excellent treatment.
Regarding the 4/20 settings, that is the factory defaults. Basically they are telling you they did nothing with your prescription as far as setting the machine. You will want to open a new thread about where to start based on your prescribed settings.

Re: S9 Autoset settings?
For now, keeping the upper pressure rating of 20 L/H2O is ok. The bottom number is the one you should be concerned with. To me, 4 l/h2o is was too low for comfort. You want the lower setting to be low enough to provide comfort, but high enough to "shorten" the distance the machine has to ramp up to treat an apnea. What did your sleep study setting recommend? If you don't know... I'd adjust the setting on 7 or 8 l/h2o, then see what my 95 percentile number was. After several nights of getting a consistent 95 percentile setting, I'd set the lower setting 3 or 4 numbers lower.

Your prescription must have has a pressure written on it...also...what was your Escape set at. By using the S9 Autoset, you can use the Humidifier from the Escape and keep the Escape as your back up machine.

Re: S9 Autoset settings?
Thanks for all your input. My setting on my escape is set at 6. However my wife says sometimes I still snore through the night and wake up tired. This is the reason for my upgrade to the autoset. I also have insomnia and take ambien to get to sleep most nights.
Re: S9 Autoset settings?
A new machine won't change your treatment by magic, you have to program it to make a difference. I would definitely bump up your pressure to 7-8 (if not higher eventually) for a few nights at each setting to see how you feel and how the numbers look. The S9 Autoset is as good as it gets these days so don't worry about the machine. Some people like the PR - I didn't - and have had odd glitches here and there with it, though it's also supposed to be very good.
