CPAP and low blood pressure?

Hi everyone!

For the past two years I have been suffering from low blood pressure causing me to be dizzy at times. It is around 90/65..Before this my blood pressure was always perfect around 120/80. I'm 29 years old.

Doctors can not find what is causing it...but recently I had a sleep test done and found to have OSA. I was very happy because I'm thinking this could be what is causing my low blood pressure.

But once I received my cpap machine, I read in the manual that it can cause low blood pressure!!!

Does anyone know why it can cause this? Maybe the cpap machine actually acts as a modulator? People who have high blood pressure actually would get a decrease while people with low blood pressure will get an increase?

According to my cardiologist, CPAP treatment can lower blood pressure but nothing I have read or heard would indicate it would raise blood pressure.

Low blood pressure sometimes indicates the possibility of UARS more than OSA, in a sleep-breathing patient, if you believe in UARS:

In the severe hypotension circumstances of heart failure and blood loss from trauma, CPAP may be contraindicated in the emergency setting, from what I understand, because of its effect on blood movement in the heart or something:

However, I am personally not aware of any information available on CPAP use by OSA patients with low blood pressure.

jnk, unless i am missing something due to sleep deprivation, the article you quoted has to do with people who were NOT receiving CPAP treatment. I believe the OP was asking about CPAP and LBP.

So my doctor should of tested for UARS rather than OSA? But I read UARS is treated the same way as OSA with a cpap machine?

Yep. Treated same way if the treatment used works.
