Another New mask

Post by Suzannaor » Sun Aug 04, 2013 2:42 pm

Well, the SleepWeaver mask did not work out well as there were many large air leaks. After I sent my smart card from the machine to the sleep technician, she sent me a new mask because of the air leaks. So I am now using the Mist. Two nights so far and doing quite well. Managed to keep it on all night long! This is my 4th mask to try and I hope this is the last.

Any others with experience with the Mist?

She also sent me a copy of my report with a notation I had done a good job. I expected a bad report as I usually can't stand the mask any more than 4 or 5 hours a night. (Doing better with the MIST, I might add!) My AH1 was 1.1 .... not exactly sure what that means. Is that the number of apena episodes per hour? Is that bad or good?

Enjoy this group very much and am learning a lot from reading posts!

AHI<5.0 is considered good therapy. Most people feel better though when it's below 3 and leaks are under control. Is the Mist a new mask on the market?

I think she means Wisp. The wisp is pictured as her mask.

You have been reading posts since May and you still don't know what AHI is or whether a 1.1 is good or bad? I suggest that you go to the top of the page and read the CPAP WIKI. (Yellow Light Bulb)

Woops, my mistake. I am using the WISP mask. I'll check out the info suggested, LSAT. Probably won't post again. I feel like a dunce.

Please stay with us and ask all the questions you want to, you'll get lots of help here from lots of great people and maybe a bit of teasing too! After awhile you'll learn how to give it back!

Don't feel like a dunce. We're all at different stages of getting used to life with CPAP. We don't all have the mental clarity and stamina to read and absorb a lot of material when we start using the mask. By joining this forum, reading along and learning from the wiki, as LSAT suggests, hopefully at some point soon you'll feel comfortable with all the terminology. Acronyms were a real problem for me when I first started. Now they're a cinch. You'll get there too. We'll probably make it sound too easy sometimes, almost as if what you asked were a dumb question, but that's okay. No question is stupid, even repeated ones. Keep asking. By asking questions, it means you're staying involved and trying to keep informed about your own therapy. The more you learn, the more you can keep yourself whole and well.

Good night!

LSAT, people have different levels of comprehension when reading the intent and just because something seems obvious to you doesn't mean it is obvious to the other person. Just saying!

Suzannaor, you are not stupid and please don't let one post make you feel that way. You are welcome to ask any question that you need an answer to. There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Thank you for your support, my friends! I was feeling a little down yesterday. I did find the information LSAT suggested and bookmarked the page with definitions, which I will study off and on while I am learning. As many of you are, I am dealing with several health issues and learning about sleep apnea has been on a lower priority. I know it is here to stay but I guess I've been in the denial stage. Learning about this disease is probably the same as learning how to manage diabetes. I was diagnosed with LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in an Adult) Type 1 when I was 60. I managed well with insulin shots, but on March 24 I started on an insulin pump and on May 1 I started on the CPAP machine! Big challenges learning to sleep with both machines hooked to me! I've concentrated more on learning to regulate the insulin pump, but realize both are life threatening diseases. So ... will try to learn more and continue to ask questions! I still have a couple more health issues to deal with which includes an overnight stay in the hospital. I've put that off until I felt comfortable with both machines. Thanks again.

Wanted to wish you the best with the serious diabetes issues and other health issues and tell you I'm glad the Wisp is working for you. Hang in there and here. I read when I can but I hesitate to post.
It was and is hard for me to remember much at a time posted in help articles, terms, etc also. I still struggle to understand and certainly don't know enough to actually help anyone. However, I hope you always feel free to post any questions or problems you have and those who are considerate and supportive will be the ones who respond. There are many of them in this group.

You've got a lot to deal with and hopefully the good people on this forum will be able to guide you on your cpap journey so you'll have one less thing to worry about. I remember how hard it was for me to start posting questions when I wasn't even sure of what questions to ask. Even now after 5yrs of taking care of my husband's therapy I still ask questions, sometimes the same questions I asked as a newbie! I've been told by some of the experts here that it helps to answer a newbie's question because it reminds them of some things they had learned long ago and almost forgotten, sort of a refresher course.

+1 I agree with DreamDiver!!

The only way that I was successful on my process was by taking control & being involved in it.
