Pain
What do you do when you are in pain and there is nothing you can do and it feels like you can't stand it another minute?

I get into trance and leave this reality for that place beside the glacier up in the mountains.

The back pain? Maybe fill up the bathtub and soak, the warmth and weightlessness might bring some relief. And have a good cry, release some of the tension your body is surely carrying from the pain.

Re: Pain
I am sorry to hear this. For me (and this certainly isn't an answer for everyone) I am fortunate to have access to breakthrough medications. I have constant pain from surgery nearly 20 years ago now. Fortunately, most of the time the pain is below the threshold of interfering with life (due to medication regimen) but every so often it likes to remind me who is in charge.Stormynights wrote:What do you do when you are in pain and there is nothing you can do and it feels like you can't stand it another minute?
Honestly, just talking about it is making me hyper-aware!
Meditation is an excellent strategy, but you need to learn how during a less painful time, and practice.
Screaming isn't such a bad idea either, unless you have close neighbors.
I was taught that you can't be in as much pain if you don't hold your breath, which we all naturally do when we hurt. This is one reason for the breathing exercises before childbirth. So concentrate on breathing, which is a good way to learn meditation, too.

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

I used to yelp. Kind of like an involuntary karate yell.
My co-workers would look at me funny; but I didn't need drugs.

When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

Re: Pain
I think i mentioned before that i take tylenol and ibuprophen several times a day but if i am in a place where i can't get any pain meds, i meditate. I always meditate but with pain i meditate directly on the pain, i don't try to run from or avoid the pain. I try to bring 100% of my focus on the pain, i do not try to make it go away or lessen it, i try to encompass it, become the pain. It seems to help and it certainly lessens the pain or at least allows me to accept it.

Re: Pain
I caused this myself. My back has been really bad but my floors were so dirty I had to run the vacuum cleaner. I was too ashamed to hire someone and let them see how I let it go. At least I know the cause of the pain now thanks to the MRI. Now I just need to get it fixed.
I am so thankful for the kind words and suggestions. I can't take pain meds I seem to have a bad reaction to everything except OTC. The tens and OTC stuff aren't helping now. I am afraid to try getting into the tub because I may not be able to get out. I am just a whiny mess now.

Re: Pain
You don't drink or I would suggest that I come over and get stinking drunk with you.
I know what it feels like to do something I shouldn't and I pay for it later. Been there and done that myself.
I don't know which might help relieve your type of pain better but I do better with heat for those situation where I have done something I shouldn't and my back tells me I am a stubborn old fool.
For acute strains or injuries typically ice for the first 48 hours is what we used to advise....but you may not have strained a muscle...just aggravated nerve endings with the chores.
Do you have a heating pad? Or wet a towel and zap it in the microwave a bit to get some warmth...don't get it too hot.
If heat doesn't help...might try ice but normally heat helps increase the circulation better.

Re: Pain
I'm not clear if your pain is in your back or joints or something else. However, if it is, I've got back problems too. Check out Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM Tablets, a OTC medication. These will work if the pain is in your joints by lubricating all the surfaces that rub together. If the pain is in the muscles then you you may have to consider NSAIDs and so forth. I've been taking these products for 15 years with great results and no side effects... so has my wife. My favorite brand is Nature's Bounty Flex-A-Min Triple Strength, but the cheaper Walgreen's brand works just as well. Make sure you wait two weeks for relief and it's critical to TAKE THE FULL RECOMMENDED DOSAGE, DON'T CUT CORNERS. Let me know if it works for you (if you try it). re: http://www.walmart.com/ip/FLEXAMIN-TS-BNS/13269734

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: Pain
The doctor said the MRI showed I had cysts at the nerve ending in my spine that was causing the pain. It has been steadily getting worse. The heating pad and Ice hasn't seemed to help yet. I just wish I wasn't too chicken to get in the bath tub.
Pugsy I don't drink but if you show up with a bottle I just may start. I do like fuzzy navels I think but it has been years since I had one.
