Has Anybody Used the SoClean Device?
This is not SPAM.
Last week I ran across this device this device . I'd never seen or heard of such a thing before. It's rather expensive -- $250, but my provider is always on my case because I don't clean my gear. If it really works and is safe this could change that.
Has anyone here used it and if so do you have an opinion about it?

Re: Has Anybody Used the SoClean Device?
ive seen it a few times $300 or so me no
i buy ebay or other sites whats called natural Alcohol free wipes and sprays
if you tear down your machine spray tiny amount into intake and exhaust of main machine very light or you will damage that cleans sanitizes and deodorizes the only inside parts that need it
that machine i think flushes it very bad seals and other fragile parts cant be soaked
your mask the wipes and a nice terry cloth washcloth rag i use to whip mask and my face to get grease off my face for better seal
mask can also be soaked in warm soapy water and vinegar is safe easy way to keep humidifier take clean and free of bottom build up
it very cheap and easy to do it yourself and allot cheaper me i dont trust machines
your hose i am medicare disabled i got hoses up the butt most all mask everything is changed monthly with medicare
dont have that and dont want to buy new hoses out of pocket use warm soapy water and pour down the hose a bonce of times take garden hose to it for good pressure was also there are long bristle cleaning wands for tubes i dont recommend it thought a have sharp tip and if hose isnt perfect position it can poke a hole with all that a hose is safe and sanitary till it gets crusty and ideas
thats my preference but im also ocd so i have to make sure it perfect clean and sanitary every night

I have been using the SoClean for over a year now. It uses ionized moisture from your humidifier to sanitize your machine & mask. I would recommend the SoClean. I do use an Alcohol Free wipe to wipe off my mask where it touches skin.

Re: Has Anybody Used the SoClean Device?
Don't expect the SoClean to clean your equipment for you.
The best it can do is deodorize and sanitize.
There is no substitute for soap, water and a little elbow grease.
Sterile grunge is still grunge.

I agree. You still have to wash the mask and hose sometime.chunkyfrog wrote:Don't expect the SoClean to clean your equipment for you.

It might be worth it for a sleep lab to use on cpap machines between patients. It's probably awesome for removing the smell of cigarette smoke, vomit or fried foods for second-hand resellers like Second Wind. I wonder how tough repeated exposure to concentrated ozone is on plastic and silicone surfaces and whether it makes masks, tubing, tanks, and blowers deteriorate faster than they would under normal circumstances.
For the at-home user, I wonder if this might just be a fancy way to spend more money.

I think it's mostly a solution looking for a problem. Don't let a paranoid provider transform you into a paranoid user. The "seldom clean" folks have been on this forum just as long as the "can't be too careful" folks have. What's adequate for you is what's best for you.i_am_jim wrote:Last week I ran across this device this device . I'd never seen or heard of such a thing before. Re: Has Anybody Used the SoClean Device?
No amount of sitting in an "ozone bath" is going to wash off accumulated skin cells, oils, coughs and sneezes. It might kill the viruses and bacteria living in that gunk, but it's not going to magically disappear.
Incidentally, they don't use the term 'ozone' because there's a fairly-well known health concern about using ozone-producing machines in closed inhabited environments for both humans and their pets. This link is to an epa statement about ozone in the human environment.
Again, it makes good sense for something like this to be used in a hospital, sleep lab or by a secondary reseller--not so much for home use.

Re: Has Anybody Used the SoClean Device?
I've had a SoClean for 1 1/2 years and very happy with it. I use it for two reasons: 1.) I have sinus/respiratory issues that I can't afford to let get away from me. 2.) I tended to be lax in my cleaning. Those two points don't make for a good combination. It's important to note that the SoClean isn't meant to replace regular cleaning, but it is a very good supplement to it. My equipment never gets to the point where it smells between cleanings or develops biofilm. I know ozone is a powerful gas, but in this instance it's kept within a closed loop & never reaches the outside environment. So far, my equipment doesn't appear to be negatively affected by it.

Although most here tend to consider this method on the extreme side,
it may be advisable for a patient with compromised immunity,
and also those who need the reassurance (due to anxiety) so they can sleep at night.
Trust your instinct. (I know that's a cop-out)

I suspect it is ineffective. Ozone can kill germs. However, it also eats plastic. Is there some happy medium that kills germs, but doesn't damage your CPAP parts? Show me some independent peer reviewed studies and I'll believe.
However, the machine does appear to blow dry air, so it may dry out and air out your hose and mask if you use it daily.
However, just using an old CPAP without humidity or some other kind of blower would do the same thing.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! There are some delicate and expensive sensors in the air path that may be damaged.LSAT wrote:DON'T SPRAY ANYTHING INTO THE INTAKE OF THE MACHINE.
