and change the pressure on my machine, even though I've been told I can't.

I'm sick of feeling like my eyes and ears will explode on 17, and pulling the mask off half way through the night.

I suppose I could contact sleep clinic, wait a month for an appt and spend $65 in fuel.

Go ahead.....BUT.... do it .5 at a time and for several days to a week duration for each reduction .... AND keep a journal of your reactions for comparisons when you are done.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Will do, I'm hoping that I will only need to lower it by one or two numbers

I'm still new, but I didn't realize this was naughty.

The conspiracy between doctors and DME's who think they're gods and that we're idiot children is well known on this forum... I remember when people afraid to say boo (with their own equipment, therapy and lives on the line) used to write about pressure police or something like that, but I think more and more of us everyday are learning to take control. There's so much info out there and especially on this forum, it's a wonder we bother with doctors at all! Do your worst and be proud of it.

The most important step is getting where you can keep your mask on and sleep all night. You will never get good therapy until you can do that. After you get that done you can get your pressure up where it needs to be. Best wishes.

I got my machine on a subsidised program (so I don't own my machine), and they've told me on two occasions that I can't change the pressure myself.

But I am now getting sick of the driving I have to do(no public transport), I keep saying to myself "x miles isn't that far". But it does catch up with you. Great now I'm whinging, I didn't want to do that

What? Someone broke into your house and adjusted the settings on your machine? How crazy is that!? Must've been some rogue DME employee, since you surely don't know how to adjust your machine.

To mgaggie,

Best of luck on your experimenting. But do keep in mind that you're flying blind Icon Novo brick. So you'll need to keep some tabs on how you are feeling relative to your pre-CPAP daytime symptoms. If you lower the pressure too far, it won't be enough to keep your airway properly splinted. And the amount of air needed to properly treat your OSA depends on the structure of your throat and how easily it collapses.

And sometimes, it is really ok to whine. I know if I was driving that far, paying $65 in fuel just to obtain a service that I could easily do at home, I would feel the same way.

Good luck in figuring out your pressure. You'll do fine.

Nanwilson is making a good goal for you. This is a form of self-medication.. I see the small changes happening that you are not aware of. ...desats, arousals, brainwaves, UARS, snoring, etc. ultimately, you should confirm your pressure you like with 'another!!' Sleep study.

Before they increased my pressure to 17, it was at 10 or 11 (can't remember atm) so I will not go below that as I tolerated that pressure quite well.

Thankyou to everyone who replied, much appreciated

mgaggie,

I second the recommendation to keep a log. track your pressure and AHIs. find the lowest pressure that gets you under 5 AHIs. one last thing, be prepared to reapply your changes if you visit your DME (or cringe, they have you set up with remote reporting).
