Question on S9 humidifier

Post by karessamom » Mon Jul 15, 2013 12:56 pm

I recently got a new S9 elite CPAP machine. I've been having dryness issues and nosebleeds. I've tried setting the humidifier settings way up but to no avail. then thru another post I got the idea of going into the settings and changing the climate control (I think that's what it was) to manual instead of automatic--(We have a large (evaporative or as we call it) swamp cooler in our bedroom so the room is quite humid during the summer) in hopes that it would override the room air sensor and bring more humidity to the mask since I'm also on oxygen at night which tends to dry the air even more. I'm still getting very dry air and waking up several times during the night with dry mouth (I tend to sleep with mouth open) I've still got the humidifier settings way up (on my old machine I'd be raining out constantly from too much moisture) any ideas as to why i'm not getting as much humidification as I should be getting?? machine is brand new as of last Monday! as I've said room is probably very humid but air from machine is very dry I'm also not using hardly ANY water so wondering if the humidifier is working correctly?? no error messages though.

So you are using the ClimateLine hose but have it set to manual settings so you should have 2 setting choices...temperature and humidity. What settings are you using for each?
What is the ambient humidity level in the bedroom?

I should have made myself more clear--NO i'm not using the climateline hose--just the regular slimline that comes with it the RT at my DME said I didn't need the climateline in the summer. I'm not sure what the humidity level in the room actually is but as I said we have a large evaporative cooler in there so it puts out alot of moisture. I live in Utah so we have fairly dry climate (that's why the swamp coolers work well here we don't have conventional AC in our house) Maybe I shouldn't have changed the settings at all but was somehow trying to override the room sensor or maybe that's only when you use the climateline hose?? I don't know?? just got the new machine last week. (as I recall the options for climate control were Patient, Auto and manual)

Update--just called my DME who told me there was no way to override the system so I set it back to auto and am going to try turning up the humidity all the way tonight and see if that helps. the only other solution is to go back to my old machine which I may have to do unless there are any other suggestions. He (from the DME) also said I could try using the climateline hose but unfortunately my RX does not specify that I can use it (doesn't make sense because I have everything else but oh well)

My DME tried to set me up with the Slimline hose; I noticed it and told him I wanted the ClimateLine. He fussed about it for a minute because it costs more, but he went and got me one. Without the ClimateLine, you are losing an important functionality of the S-9, and you might as well have the old stand-alone pass-over humidifier.
It makes a huge difference- besides the elimination of rain-out, the humidity is kept constant and your nasal passages will thank you. It is worthwhile to get your DME to fork one over.
As far as your Rx, it is probably generic for "supplies", and they don't make any money on the ClimateLine. Pester him or call your doctor to fax a revised Rx to the DME.

Try the CLimateLine hose if you have one.
In Automatic mode it will try to deliver 80% humidity at even the lowest temp you are comfortable with.
So no you may not need it to warm the air and prevent rain out in the summer but you may need it to deliver more humidity.
That's what I did with mine and you know me....I like/need lots of water.

When using the regular slimline hose you won't have the ability to max out the delivery of the moisture as you do with the ClimateLine and maintain it consistently. With the slimline the humidity is going to fluctuate with the heat cycles more.
