Why would you think the treatment is the same? I think CSA is frequently treated by an ASV, which is a different beast from an XPAP.grumpycat12 wrote:Who cares about the cause if the treatment (use of a Xpap) is the same?

And just exactly what is the LOGIC in including this tidbit in your discussion of OSA?remhunter wrote:(I don't want to go into the gay discussion here but even gays and lesbians have ears)

Nah, most RTs don't believe in self treatment. But I will vote for him being someone who is bored and trying to start argumentsnanwilson wrote:I just read both threads by remhunter...... can we say SPAM or better yet.... a bored RT trying to get someone's goat

That's kinda what I thought...someone bored and/or maybe needs their meds adjusted to calm them down a bit.49er wrote: Nah, most RTs don't believe in self treatment. But I will vote for him being someone who is bored and trying to start arguments
Normally I don't bother with those types but when misinformation is dispensed that could be harmful I won't let it slide.

Yes lots of really stupid misinformation posted by this person. Something a newbie might use as an excuse to ride the river of denial. It is amazing how one stupid bit of misinformation will go viral if not stomped on immediately!Pugsy wrote:That's kinda what I thought...someone bored and/or maybe needs their meds adjusted to calm them down a bit.49er wrote: Nah, most RTs don't believe in self treatment. Re: Making sense of CSA... Use your LOGIC!
I concur that the "information" being posted by the OP is not just wrong, but dangerously so.
CSA is QUITE different than OSA. Central Sleep Apnea is most frequently caused by heart related issues (specifically congestive heart failure). However, it is known to be caused by many other issues, including problems with the central nervous system. Except in the mildest cases, it is NOT treated through use of CPAP and/or BiPAP device. Keeping the airway open does NOTHING to tackle the central sleep apnea. Instead a completely different therapy is required. It is a unit that provides Adaptive Servo-Ventilation (or ASV as the units are known).
Failure to manage central sleep apnea is as bad as failure to treat obstructive sleep apnea. It can and does lead to death. And for most of the same reasons as OSA. It plays havoc with our metabolism. It tends to result in uncontrolled and uncontrollable high blood pressure. That can cause heart attacks and strokes. It can also cause permanent kidney damage.
Failure to reach REM sleep state during sleep can and will cause serious health issues. However, I KNOW from personal experience that the body WILL reach REM sleep state even when awake. It is often called microsleep. Before my obstructive sleep apnea was treated I needed sleep so badly that I would dream when I blinked. Needless to say, it was quite disconcerting.
There is a LOT of research into central sleep apnea. The junk spouted by the OP does not reflect that research. If you are interested in Central Sleep Apnea, start reading that reasearch. A list of Links to Central Sleep Apnea research is provided at:

I hope that helps clear up some of this confusion.

Re: Making sense of CSA... Use your LOGIC!
My first impression: The OP is in denial, and got stinkin' drunk.
The other possibility is that his intent is not benign, or even accidental.
Maybe we need to contact Homeland Security!
(edit) Quoted from OP's first post:
"I hurt my head with a kitchen furniture a long time ago, time past and months later I had blood acummulated in both sides of my brain (outside de craneus). I was operated in neurology at Jackson Memorial in Miami . . . "
I know what's up now:
BRAIN DAMAGE
