My Mask Smells Like Smoke

Having recently worn out my second Remstar Pro C-Flex, and discovering just how expensive machines have become (especially since I now have a high insurance deductible), I was pleased to buy a used (1700 hr, or about 7 months) Pro 2 C-Flex. Unfortunately it was from a smoking home.
The tubing was just disgusting with tar and nicotine so I threw that away. New tubing is cheap through several places on Amazon. I removed the filters, ran the machine open for 3-4 hrs with a saucer of white vinegar directly under the air intake, and put in new filters. The humidifier tank I soaked in white vinegar/water for a few hours and rinsed several times, and the carrying bag stayed outside for a few days of sunshine!

At first, the machine still had a very noticeable smoke smell through my clean tubing and nasal pillows, but after 15 min. or so it wasn't bothersome any more. The odor was not strong enough to irritate my nasal passages (and I am very sensitive, easily congested and allergic-type responses to even small amounts of tobacco smoke). At 50 hrs. only the first few breaths smelled like smoke, like sitting next to someone who has smoke in their clothes. After 100 hr. it's too faint to worry about any more.

I might have had second thoughts about a smoked-in machine had I known how much work it would be to deodorize, but I didn't have to disassemble the machine, and considering the bargain price I paid, well worth the effort. It's much quieter than even a new Remstar Pro, also.

Purchased a product on Amazon called clean-night complete cpap spray worked well for me, my wife smokes and my machine had a bad smell every night, use this stuff about 2 times a week. Works well. You spray it on mask and on the filter, works quick.
