REMstar Pro machine no longer usable
REMstar Pro machine no longer usable
A month ago I received a REMstar Pro (460P, 3.xx code level) after it was being prescribed by my doctor. It has the C-Flex feature and the ramp up feature. Together it made using the machine bearable. After thirty days I ejected the SD memory card and mail it in as requested. But to my surprise the machine that night changed its behavior. Now it goes to full pressure immediately without any ramp-up period and the C-Flex feature has been disabled so the air pressure is constant at 14.5. I called the medical services and all they could tell me is that's what the doctor prescribed. I'm to see him this Tuesday and I want to know is this normal with C-PAP therapy? Is there a good reason why the C-Flex and ramp feature can't be reinstated? Without them I feel I can't continue with using the machine. Anyone else with a similar experience? Thanks!
Re: REMstar Pro machine no longer usable
To my knowledge there is no reason for these changes as a result of removing the SD card. If you are interested in doing so, you can make pressure and ramp changes on your own. You should have in your posetion a copy of your sleep study and your prescription for the CPAP. If you don't have it ask your doctor for a copy...it may save headaches later.

Re: REMstar Pro machine no longer usable
here is a good video to watch for your machine. Scroll to the last one and watch it will show you where to go for the ramp and your Flex, this is A flex but the principle is the same on how to set it up.. http://www.cpaplibrary.com/machines.html

You apparently have a "System One Pro/Auto".seabrook wrote:A month ago I received a REMstar Pro (460P, 3 . xx code level) after it was being prescribed by my doctor. Optimizing CPAP prescription pressureat home
Your Home Sleep Testing and long-term CPAP solution
With System One REMstar Pro and REMstar Auto you now have the ability to assess
your home sleep testing patients CPAP prescription in an Auto-CPAP Trial mode that was
designed to optimize pressure settings, while providing them the long-term benefits of fixed
CPAP therapy. This therapy uniquely adjusts to your patient’s CPAP pressure needs over
time through the CPAP-Check mode. EncoreAnywhere gives you the ability to remotely
monitor AHI, leak and many other advanced events recorded by your patient’s REMstar Pro
and Auto devices.
1
Available in REMstar Pro and REMstar Auto devices
Enhancing patient compliance CPAP-Check mode checks on the user every 30 hours to determine if therapy pressure
is optimal. If not, it automatically adjusts the nightly fixed CPAP pressure by 1 cm H2O(with maximum upper and lower limits of 3 cm) to obtain an ideal pressure.
CPAP-Check benefits:
•
Therapeutic pressure is continuously monitored
•
Long-term enhanced patient care – patients are always on optimal CPAP pressure
•
Therapy adapts to patient’s pressure needs over time
•
Less unnecessary intervention thanks to remote management via EncoreAnywhere
Auto-Trial mode delivers breath-by-breath Auto-CPAP therapy for up to a total of 30
days. At the end of the Auto-Trial period, the device will automatically transition into
the CPAP-Check mode at the pressure the patient was at or below 90% of the trial
period time.
Auto-Trial benefits:
•
Provides clinicians the opportunity to provide short term Auto-CPAP for patients who would benefit without having
to prescribe a “full” Auto-CPAP device
•
Reevaluation of therapeutic pressures for patients who:
- received a home sleep test
- may have had a poor in-lab titration study
- who experience a return of symptoms

Re: REMstar Pro machine no longer usable
Ok, I'm now really confused (and a bit depressed). Does this mean C-Flex feature - which is the software that modulates the pressure to my breathing - only available in the first thirty days? And what about the ramp up feature, why did that feature disappear too?

Noooooo. Just the Auto (range of pressures) feature.seabrook wrote:Ok, I'm now really confused (and a bit depressed). These machines CAN be reset back to their previous (Auto) mode, but it sounds like your therapy is being monitored by a doctor at this stage, so I would advise against it at this point. Once the doctor cuts you loose (and the machine is yours), then you set it however you want.
I would also strongly advise monitoring your therapy with software.

Re: REMstar Pro machine no longer usable
Removing the SD card should not change the machine's settings.
However, the doctor (or DME) can record new settings on the SD card.
So, when you put the replacement card into the machine, the settings
may have changed.
Talk to your doctor about re-enabling Ramp and C-Flex.

Thanks for all responses!
Well, I see my doc Tuesday and I'll go from there. For record I haven't yet received a replacement SD card. And regarding software are there any download sites? Thanks.
