Wisp pinches nose shut and leaks

Post by davebaze » Fri Jul 05, 2013 9:10 pm

Just got a new wisp mask but the nose piece is to small and pinches my nose shut. The next size up leaks. What can I do with this mask? I cant use it.

Dave,

If it is touching your nostrils you are wearing it up too high. Watch the videos on their website. The bottom of the nosepiece should be resting just above your upper lip. Don't try to enclose the top part of your nose. The top of the Wisp should be straddling your nose like a rodeo cowboy.

Regards, Nate

Also, you may have it on too tight. I made that mistake when I started using mine and almost returned it until my DME had a look at it and loosened my straps.

I am struggling with the wisp too for the same reason. I really do like it and I am still working on finding a solution. It is the pressure on the side of my nose that closes off my airway. I think my nose is weird.

Some days the mask wins.
I couldn't use the Wisp no matter what size cushion or where I positioned it.

I found much the same problem when I tried the fabric frame; the silicone frame grips my cheeks,
like a bareback rider grips the horse's body with his knees, keeping his "wedding tackle" off the horse's backbone-
-like my cushion makes lighter contact on my face and nose. If you are using the fabric frame,
I urge you to try the silicone--and put your cheeks into it. Sticky is good.

Go to the next size larger and use a mask liner to help control the leaks... it worked for me. I also agree with CF's suggestion to try the silicone frame if you haven't already.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

+1
I made the same mistake. For those of you struggling with the Wisp, you should feel the mask puff out a couple millimeters as the air fills the pillow. If this isn't happening I suspect the mask is definitely too tight.

I know the mask isn't for everyone, but I had many of the same problems at first use and again when I added the Pad A Cheek frame cover... Took me a couple nights to dial it in.

For me I think the insides of my nose has something weird going on. It looks normal but mask fitting problems after 3 years is getting ridiculous.
