Question about Mole Skin

Post by Bassman8416 » Mon Jul 01, 2013 12:36 pm

I have been having problems with sores on the sides of my nose, tried, loosening, nose cushions, lanolin. I am about to try the mole skin....do I attach it to the mask itself or stick it on the skin of my nose area, seems like the adhesive could irritate the nose as well. Thanks.

Moleskin DOES help sores on your nose to heal if you put the moleskin on your nose before you put on your mask.

BUT - The adhesive on the moleskin is pretty strong and IT can remove some skin from your nose when you try to take it off.

I do NOT use the moleskin for that reason alone.

I, instead, just use the small round bandaids & I put a very small dab of Neosporin on it.
They do the same job - but come off withOUT doing more damage.

Once the sore on your nose is healed, you need to take the steps to keep it from happening again. Loosening the mask straps is 1 option.

Yeah, moleskin can be tough on skin. I tried it once and never again.

With my new Wisp mask I sometimes get an inflamed red spot on or near my nose, mostly because I have very sensitive skin. What I do is put a bit of 3M Nexcare transpore tape on the offending area. It is super thin and has lots of perforations that allow the skin to breathe... the best part is that it sticks all night and comes off easily in the morning. It does not in any way contribute to my leak rate which is something I'm grateful for. Note: I also use a fabric Pad a Cheek liner along with the Wisp mask; it does a good job making the seal more comfortable.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I have heard of the moleskin being adhered to the mask cushion; but why not use the Band-Aid Spot?
The only harm that was done was a little embarrassment when I left it on for half a day at work.
No moles are harmed this way, either.

I have taken a 3/4" wide fabric bandaid and cut the padded area off, leaving me with two breathable patches ... I stuck one to my nose, easily comes off in the morning (if I remembered!) and I would just stick it to the knob on my cpap ... I was able to use it again for a few more nights ...

I have also used a gel type thing called a "Boomerang" it goes over the bridge of your nose, then you put your mask on over it ... Requires you clean it everyday (so it will stick) and has a expected use life of one month ... About $15.
