I finally looked up my original sleep study which started me on CPAP tx a month or so ago. In reviewing my study, which was a split night study, I had an AHI of 23 untreated. Then I was titrated and had 0 events at 6 and 8 cmH2O, an AHI of 4.9 at 10 cmH2O and 0 events for 12, 13 and 14. No centrals and no Cheyne-Stokes.
So here's my question: Why the hell am I titrated at 10, when 10 was the ONLY pressure that I had ANY events?
I'm on CPAP, a Fisher&Paykel HC608, with a Mirage Swift, and I'm awakening several times a night, though it is improving. I am wondering about demanding an APAP, especially now since I've reviewed my study and find that 10 seems to be the MAX I need. I do like the F&P and the Swift quite well, however.
I'd be grateful for any of your thoughts.

Sleep study question
Chuck,
When you figure out why some of these "sleep doctors" come up with the numbers that they do, please let us know.
Even after a year, I'm still angry and cynical about my experience. They get a couple of hours of (usually) bad sleep and come up with a number that you're supposed to live with forever.....or until you give up or go back to them for help.
XPAP users NEED to be informed about how their therapy is working. This is the reason I'm so adamant about using a machine that has data capture that the users can see for themselves.....whether it be from downloads or viewing in a screen the next morning.
If you want an APAP.......go for it.....get one!
Best wishes,
Den

I'm with you, I think most sleep studies are wrong for so many reasons.
One thing they are in bed with the Dr.'s and probably the DME's so one would expect them to paint the worse picture they can on the data.
Most are based on a poor nights sleep in non-normal surroundings.
From what I gather from some other peoples sleep studies, my study was substandard, I had one type of mask FF, no O2 that I was on, no HH, and I was not given a copy of the study.
In my defence, I had not found this site, and was sadly uninformed at to my needs, needless to say, "I've found the Light", and not proactive in our cause. ( I never thought I would say that about anything.)
Most things life throws at us we can't repair but this we can. Jim
Goofproof, on the non-log-in computer! The other one is busy!

how did they come up with 10cm?? ah this is an easy one... sleep docs have a special sleep dart board in their private office... ALL the numbers on the board are 10.
They review your sleep study results, then toss 4 darts at that board, then they average out the score of the 4 tosses and that is your titrated pressure.
