Need Help Interpreting My Test Results

Post by Popinka » Mon Jan 17, 2005 12:42 pm

I got copied from my Dr. at lunch. What do they mean?

1st Sleep Study:

AHI: 14.29
AHI REM: 42.19

2nd Sleep Study (with CPAP):

AHI: 11.28
AHI REM: 24.00

All but 3 arousals non-respiratory. No central apneas.

Titration: AHI @ 5 CM : 14.17
AHI @ 6 CM: 0.00
AHI @ 7 cm: 10.56
AHI @ 8 cm: 8.49
AHI @ 9 cm: 9.8

None at when > 10 cm but the a graph seems to suggests that the CPAP level was never raised above 9cm (so how could you tell).

Is this mild? What does the higher number in REM mean, and could it explain why I am so fatigued? Dr. said that my Celexa could be masking my apneas, what does this mean? I understand what a hypoapnea is but does it cause you to wake up in the same way?

Thanks for your help!

It looks a bit odd, but I would guess, and only guess that your total AHI in the first study was 56.48 (14.29 in Non Rem, 42.19 in REM) and the second study was 35.28.

If that's right 35.28 is still way too high, and it would explain why you are still so tired.

The goal is to be under 5.

It's good that you had only 3 arousals.

What was lowest Oxygen saturation level ?

It could be the Celexa is helping your brain stay asleep and preventing arousals, but your O2 levels are still dropping too low. To me, that's a bit dangerous since the whole point of the arousal is to get you to start breathing again.

A hypopnea is when you inhale less than 50% of what you normally would, for more than 10 seconds and that creates a drop in Oxygen by at least 3 %.

And yes, it can cause you to wake up (even if you don't know it).

Again, that's only my opinion.

My low O2 was 50.75 (awake); NREM (81.91); REM (79.9); TST (79.9)

That's pretty low.

I believe anything below 95% is not very good.

I am curiuos why it is 50.75% while awake. Something you should ask your Doc.

My Ox Sat was lowest while I was awake too.

TST is Total Sleep Time. You only slept an hour and nineteen minutes. Is that about right ?
