hose strangles me

Post by googler » Sun May 19, 2013 2:08 am

I did fine the first two weeks on the VPAP but then I had a night where I woke up with the hose wrapped around my neck and when I moved it pulled the machine off my night table onto the floor. I was afraid the water in the humidifier would electrocute me. When I woke up again in the morning same thing and again the next morning. How do I keep from spinning in bed so much that I wrap the hose around my neck? It scared me.

Oh my, that sounds like a really unpleasant experience, unnerving. Sorry that happened.

You can get a "hose hanger" device that brings the cpap tubing down from above, and what you experienced is very unlikely to happen with the tubing suspended from above. Here's an example:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/HoseBu ... ystem.html

I've been using one of these since I had problems managing cpap tubing early on. The tubing kept pulling on the front of my mask, which really didn't help me to get the hang of using cpap. Using this sort of hanger thing, it has been much easier, no extra feet of tubing lying around to hang off the bed or get caught under my pillow and pull on my mask, or get wrapped around my neck. I just move around, and the tubing goes with me, works well.

I forgot my travel hose hanger while traveling to a professional conference.
I bought wide packing tape and scrunchies at the nearest dollar store and hung my hose from the motel headboard.
Tape on the top of the headboard (stuck to the wall--nothing goes behind it)
I ran a short chain of scrunchies to about a foot above my head and threaded the hose through the last one.
Cheap, worked perfectly.

You might investigate the Cozy Hose Boss hung with 3M Command strips, Completely eliminates the problem you described. And the 3M strips work on basically any surface, with no damage when removed.
