What is C-Flex and should I be doing something with it?

Post by ellen1159 » Fri May 17, 2013 9:13 am

I'm still in the trying to adjust to this thing on my face period, and I've noticed references to something called "C-Flex" that has to do with exhalation pressure. I need high pressure settings to open up my airway (machine is set all the way up to 25, I need min. 20 to get relief). Would adjusting the C-Flex help make my breathing more regular and routine? Do I need a doctor's order to adjust the C-Flex, the way I would if I wanted the pressure changed?

C-Flex, C-Flex+, A-Flex and Bi-Flex are all comfort features that may make it easier for you to tolerate treatment. I think, but am not sure, that since you are in Bi-Pap mode only Bi-Flex is available to you.

Should you do something with it? I'd say try it out and see what you think! Bi-Pap treatment means you already have raw exhaust pressure relief, but that's at a different part of the respiration cycle.

CFlex is only available on the PR S 1 Bipap when using straight cpap mode.
If you are seeing CFlex on the screen and not BiFlex..you are in straight cpap mode.

Any of the Flex options are considered comfort features and normally patients are allowed to change comfort features as they see a need to.

My own personal experience with the various Flex options has been that the relief was more along the terms of a breathing rhythm thing then a sudden marked reduction during exhale.
A setting of 3 seemed to make me want to breath a little too fast like I was hyper ventilating.
A setting of 1 was too slow but a setting of 2 matched my own breathing rhythm.
With the Flex options the amount of exhale relief/reduction in pressure is base on your own flow rate. How forceful your own breathing is.
There is a demo available in the Flex menu when Flex is turned on so the patient has access (clinical menu setting) and I usually tell people to play around with the 1 through 3 settings to see which one feels the best and use that setting.
