Re: Now.. Diagnosed with Central..
Just got back from my sleep study with ASV..
It went OK..
It took me over 2 hrs to fall asleep, even after taking the Ambien CR... (I figure this was due to all those wires, strange area etc..
Several times as I was about to doze off.. The machine awoke me with an increased pressure..
I finally fell asleep.. Sometime after midnight..
I woke up around 5am.. The technician did state that I has some events when I first fell asleep..
The good news.. I like the Wisp.. They had one and allowed me to use it..
So I have to wait to hear from my DR.. I have an appointment on 6/21..
Now.. Here is my question, if anyone has a thought..
I am due for a mask replacement.. I am firing my current DME, and moving to a different one..
Should I just wait till after my meeting on the 21st? or call the new DME and get the new mask.. Knowing it will work with my current CPAP and if the prescribe a ASV, it will also work.
I really liked the feel of the Wisp compared to the Swift FX, and would like to get it..

Re: Now.. Diagnosed with Central..
Well..
I have an update..
I got the Wisp Mask.. I am liking it.. It is a lot better than the Swift FX for me..
I have seen my leaks improve and it is a lot more comfortable..
I had my ASV titration.. It went good.. I have already seen a copy of the report.. It reduced my events to a 0 AHI.. The report was reviewed by my sleep doctor, and it recommends ASV for home.. The titration did state that I had leg motions of 34.0/Hr.. I feel that this is related to the titration/sleep lab and not being comfortable.. I haven't noticed any in my sleep..
I have a follow up with the sleep doctor on Friday..

Re: Now.. Diagnosed with Central..
Went to the Sleep Doctor today...
She showed me the test results.. (Which I had already seen)
She is prescribing the ASV machine, and I should hear from the DME next week. I recently switched them, so lets hope this one is better.
She also stated that the last titration showed I had 34 PLM events an hour, with an arousal.
We are going to wait and see how the ASV goes, and worry about that aspect if it continues..
I am LOVING the Wisp, it has been working really good..
I'll let everyone know as things progress..

Re: Now.. Diagnosed with Central..
I have the ASV enhanced model and i've found it to be almost no trouble getting used to - it's not as smooth as a straight bipap but i've yet to have it wake me up. It seems more noticeable when you are first going to sleep and then it seems to settle down. My biggest complaint with it is that the guy who invented the 2i humidifier was obviously not a user who was going to have to add water to it every morning - usually i end up getting soaked. Good luck

Re: Now.. Diagnosed with Central..
Two tips for acclimating to ASV:
1) If you wake up and are having trouble falling back asleep, try tapping the ramp button. That helped me fall asleep faster at first. Now I don't need to.
2) If you wake up and you find it's trying to make you breathe when you don't want to, turn therapy off then back on. That will reset its history of your breathing rate. Usually this happens when I wake up after a "stressful" dream where my pulse and breathing were elevated, and now that I'm awake, I slow back down. But the machine's average includes that abnormally high period, and it doesn't want me to slow down that quickly.
So off, back on, and it starts tracking my breathing from where it is right now. And then I drift right off.
Other than that, ASV has been a life-changer. Now even a bad night is "just" an ordinary bad night's sleep.

Re: Now.. Diagnosed with Central..
I have an appointment to get the machine on Monday.
I asked which machine, and they advised it is the Respironics.
I am used to the interface on the Resmed..
I will learn the Respironics...

Re: Now.. Diagnosed with Central..
Exactly. I've used both. Currently I'm using my older Resmed unit because it's setup and ready to go for me. But I will probably switch to the Respironics unit today. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. One thing the Respironics does is help encourage you to breathe by allowing a little more variance than the Resmed unit. As my neurologist put it, the algorithm attempts to give you every benefit of a doubt, but WILL step in if you are not breathing correctly. The Resmed unit just steps in and says "Breathe!". It does not give you the chance for some variance that we all have. If you are otherwise healthy, the Respironics unit is probably the better unit for you.traveling Utz wrote:... Most importantly, you will have a machine that helps you avoid all those centrals .. so you will be getting better sleep. We look forward to hearing how you are doing as you continue your Journey.

Re: Now.. Diagnosed with Central..
Thank you..
I was hoping for the Resmed, just because I have filters and used to the interface..
However that is what is great about here and people like you..
I will learn the new one..
