I hear men talking in my living room. At first it was really frightening as I live alone. I can't understand what is being said. I just hear deep voices "chatting". They aren't yelling, screaming, or angry. My dog didn't bark so I didn't get up to investigate and finally calmed down and went to sleep. This happens almost every night. I am also talking in my sleep during the night that wakes me up.

I'm already on Klonopin at night. No med changes for a long time so really can't say it's medication related.
It can't be sleep deprivation because I'm finally sleeping well on BiPap and having normal sleep cycles with REM sleep.

Has anyone else experienced hypnogogic hallucinations? Did they go away on their own?
You better scope out the possibility of narcolepsy.

Ever have cataplexy? Sleep paralysis? How much REM are you actually having and where in the "normal sleep cycles"? By "sleeping well" you mean no EDS?

I believe those would be more appropriately termed Exploding Head Syndrome events, a subset of (usually) hypnagogia.

I looked into exploding head syndrome and what I experience is exactly that. I am glad it happens infrequently.

exploding head syndrome - this has happened to me ever since I was a kid. Sometimes they're weird noises you could only create with a synthesizer. Sometimes they're loud, sometimes they're whisper quiet. Sometimes it sounds like one close relative or another calling my name. Always when I'm about to fall asleep, or occasionally before waking up. They rarely happen since CPAP. I never really thought about it because you can tell it's just a dream noise. But then, like JohnBFisher, I also used to fall asleep with immediate dream onset -- hence DreamDiver... I thought this was normal. Guess not. Never gave it a second thought.
