After I gave it a lot of thought I really fear this board is too cheap.

I forgot I had to put in a NIC card after it dropped is internet input after a few weeks..I thought it was a software problem..but now think it may have been a Hardware problem.

Just as i am sure something is now wrong with the hardware that handles the hard drives..I think it either drops the drive during boot or during shut down incorrectly and thus damages the partition tables.

So I ordered a replacement ASUS mother board.

And will redo all once it gets here.

I am using an ASUS motherboard. But like you, I've gone through several different manufacturers. Inevitably they try to cut corners .. to our detriment. Hopefully the ASUS board will meet your needs. My current one is pretty good, though I am having problems with one SATA III port and with the USB3 header. But that's after a couple of years of solid use. My system runs SETI@Home and MilkyWay@Home 24/7. So, it gets a real workout.

Ouch I thought that ASUS is the best of the best, I don't know where to go from them.

PS Although this does look very good and it comes with a 10 year lifetime.

Impressive board. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/990FXA-GD80.html

Silly me, had a bad night so I forgot the link.

Acronis True Image is the gold standard for cloning a hard drive.

Clonezilla is free, but I had some trouble the last time I tried it. Friends tell me they never had problems with it.

Sometime after you get a good Windows image loaded, clone the boot drive to an identical size hard drive. Check that the new drive will boot up your machine. Stuff it away somewhere safe, and you know you have a full backup that works.

You can also do the same thing and use a larger drive and then put the original drive in storage.

New ASUS Motherboard is HOT...

First it forced me to upgrade to DDR3 @ 1833HZ from my old 800HZ DDR2.

Then I found that it runs SATA 6 over my old board running only SATA 3.

And lastly I have not done a new install I just run the new driver disk for the MB and it set its self up.

With all due respect the 5 or so experts here probably get fairly inundated with help requests. They really
do a good job, but dont forget there are OTHER APNEA FORUMS OUT THERE!

One thing ive learned is to be specific and use private IM's in dealing with a question.

And make your thread VERY SPECIFIC

With all due respect, David I disagree with the suggestion to use only private IMs when dealing with apnea or machine questions if that's what you are referring to.

Only a small percentage of people who belong to cpaptalk actually post, but there are over 60,000 members. The overwhelming majority lurk, read and study without posting. We never see their names but they are benefitting from reading the questions and solutions posted by others.

For every question posted publicly and answered publicly on the forum, there are dozens, perhaps hundreds, perhaps thousands of other lurking forum users finding, reading and benefitting, first from knowing that others had/have a similar problem, and next from learning the answer/solution.

In addition, if the experts here, as well as other simply experienced users, had to read and answer the same questions by private IMs over and over again because members did not see that question and answer posted publicly online, now that would really be inundating and overwhelming!

Respectfully, Nate

AMEN! I know from posts from individuals that a lot, if not most people actually try to do their homework before posting. And they do read and learn from what others post. The advantage of forums like this .. and one thing that sets humans apart from other animals is that we have the ability to learn from the experiences of others. This forum is a great way to share that experience and wisdom.

Exactly. In fact, when I have someone share questions / information privately, I often drag it back into the forum so that others can learn. As you note, seeing the same question over and over with only a one-to-one connection is frustrating. Instead, I prefer to see a one-to-many connection. We post our experiences and thoughts to so others can see, learn and even challenge our responses. *TOGETHER* we learn and grow.

I find it so frustrating when someone says in answer to a question, "check your PM". Sometimes it's a question that I and many others would like to be included in the reply.

One of the reasons I keep posting IS for those that follow me and will want to read up on these problems...

First was learning to use a ASV machine:

I read that my complex apneas is in the 17% range and I have no idea where positional apneas fall but I bet it is less.

Well I am still fighting the battle of a good nights sleep and losing.

I cannot seem to sleep longer than a 1.5 hour.

I am writing this after one such sleep cycle.

Today I will be seeing two Doctors and one will give me a prescription for some pain meds.

Wish me luck and a good nights sleep.

Rich

Hi Rich,

What happened as I thought things were improving? Sorry to hear you are struggling and hope that things quickly get better.

Rich, ditto on concerns about how you are doing.

You are correct that continued pain throughout the night is not a good thing. I would of course caution you about narcotic painkillers. Opiates unfortunately tend to suppress normal breathing, which tends to trigger central sleep apnea. Of course, the constant wake ups only mean that you go through the sleep state transition, which also triggers central apneas. So, you will probably find you are doing a balancing act.

I really do wish you the best. It's pretty difficult to find and then maintain that perfect balance. But here's hoping you find it soon!

I understand the risks, I have tried and tried for the past couple of weeks...

Last night I was dead tired, yet woke up within a hour and 1/2 with hip pain.

I was then up for about 2.5 hours...

I did record my first 3.5 hour sleep cycle this am , with a total AHI of 9.38, by sleepyhead I slept soundly for 2.09 hours with a AHI of 6.01 and the rest of the sleep cycle, this lasted for 55.00 minutes and had a AHI of 25.09 the last part I had mask problems and was not totally asleep and only dozing.

I go to bed normally at around 9/10PM and sleep on and off all night to around 7/8AM...not good and not fun.

And even more up setting is I can often wake up for no know reason..I think I have gotten a habit of waking all by its self.

I had a problem with waking up for years, normally two to three time to take a leak, then the surgery that so disrupted my sleep even much more for the first two months seems to really added to my problem and so on.

I seem to be in a bad cycle and need to break out.

Rich

Well my need to wake up is so strong that I overrode the 5-325 Norco one hour and 49 minutes in.

But as far as I can tell it was not due to pain.

So it is perhaps more due to habit.

The fight goes on.

Rich

Success!!

First night that I was able to stay in bed almost all night.

I woke up a few times, I remember about three, BUT only the first one got me up out of bed.

The rest I was able to just shift position and fall back asleep.

So second sleep cycle recorded having lasted 5:15 hours with an AHI of 9.50.

Total sleep time was 7:05 with a total AHI of 10:29.

Now if I can do this again for a couple of days I will then try without any pain relief.

Rich
