Help Me! URGENT

Post by HisServ » Sun Apr 30, 2006 6:32 am

Please help me. Tell me what happened.

I have a REMStar Auto machine and use a mirage activa mask. Been using it for probably about a year now. Set to 9 - 15. I tape my lips. Last night I woke up and literally could not breathe. I mean NO air was going through. I tore my mask off and the tape off and sat up in bed and it took be about 10 or 15 secs to be able to get air to go back in again. It scared me to death. I viewed the data from the encore software and there was nothing unusual. I don't want to wear it again or even sleep until I know what happened. Help me please?? What's wrong?

My guess would be apnea with clogged sinuses . . . It's probably not unusual that Encore Pro didn't catch it. The machine only provides data every 30 seconds, so you may have awakened at the early part of the event. Were your sinuses clogged? If so, if you were in a panic, even though your mouth was open the valve in the back of your throat would probably have remain closed, and you wouldn't have been able to breathe because of sinus congestion being sucked up.

As an experiment, you might try breathing through your nose while having your mouth open, and then pinch your nose closed to see if that feels like what you experienced.

I have resisted using mouth taping for fear of the very thing you're describing happening to me.

Just my $0.02, of course. All I can think of. Hope it helps.

Regards,
Bill

Sorry, it's me. Not logged in at the moment. No it didn't feel like my sinuses were clogged. Even when I got the tape off and opened my mouth I couldn't breath. It fell like my windpipe had closed up. I really need help with this. I don't have insurance and just moved to a new place and don't have a doctor either. Please help me figure this out.

See a doc

You need to consult a physician, one you trust. None of us here are physicians, or can act as one here. Your problem sounds certainly upsetting, and potentially serious, so you need to see a doctor who can help you with it. We can't do that for you here. See a doctor SOON!
