That's what my husband tells me I should tell people. Duct tape fixes everything.
For some reason he keeps encouraging me to use duct tape for mouth leaks at night....can't imagine why...
I think he has an ulterior motive.

I'm not being snarky, but for my 1st few weeks, I actually did put small strips of duct tape over the clips on my Quattro FX mask connection.

It kept me from taking off the mask at night without considerable effort or thought. I could still disconnect the hose for bathroom breaks if needed.

After I got used to wearing the mask, the need for strips of duct tape went away.

Amy, if anyone has come into this diagnosis and onto this forum with a positive mindset it is you. Taking off your mask and not remembering has zilch to do with positivity. Oy.

Early on I woke up one night to discover that not only had I removed my mask but I had carefully hung it over the corner of my headboard where it normally hangs during the day. At least I'm neat and orderly in my sleep.

Carry on.

Just another example of the redneck tool box.....
WD40 or Duct tape,
If it moves and shouldn't....use the duct tape.
If it does not move and should.,....use the WD40.

Snark on!

just went back and looked at an old posting of mine where I was thinking the clips on my mask were "self releasing"

"Last night, I was awakened by the sound & feel of major air rushing on my face. I suddenly realized that that one of the lower clips on my mask had released all on it's own. my guess is that while I was sleeping on my side, the clip became pressed against the pillow & somehow released."

That was when I discovered that the clips did not release all on their own & I needed duct tape to stop releasing the clips!

I have a very thankful attitude towards my CPAP as I truly believe it has given me back my sleep. I am comforted by it's white noise that is louder when I put in my earplugs. But still, like yourself, I started finding my CPAP completely off a couple of mornings. I believe I am taking it off when it gets slightly dislodged and the leaks annoy me in a semi-asleep state. I think I found a solution in that I loop a small velcro strap (from the PapCap) around one of the headgear straps and I've found it off less since then. I' know this will be an ongoing process.

I'm encouraged that you are sleeping well enough to not wake up ripping the durn thing off.

Well this snarky guy still managed to get unhinged from his mask ... go figure.

Ew...that's disgusting. Now I'm gonna have that in my head when I'm going to sleep tonight. Thank you, lol.

I totally didn't take the duct tape comment as snarky at all, it didn't bother me a bit . The thing that bothered me was the implication that it was a matter of "mindset" and quite frankly I call bullsh*t. That's like telling someone with clinical depression that its all in their mind. Some people really do need meds. ( and some people really do need duct tape, or time, or strategies, or whatever because they really do just do stuff in their sleep ). All the talking in the world and good intentions and positive self talk and working their program unfortunately aren't the answer for everyone. If hard work and a good attitude were all it took I'd be perfect! And I do know from what I speak on that.

Thank you Kaiasgram <3

PS....I am going to put a blanket "please bear with me" on my bitchy-ness. My emotions are all over the place right now and I'm trying as hard as I can to stay level headed and calm but all of the sudden I can get slammed with irritation (and that truly isn't like me at all). Got my second opinion today for the Graves Disease. Guess what? I have Graves Disease. Severely. The symptoms really suck, and I'm having a tough time taking it in b/c honestly its not what I want to hear. I know that doesn't make it not be true but I'm still processing. I only found out a week ago. Started the meds 3 days ago. Keeping fingers crossed I can tolerate them. And if not, at least long enough for me to decide if I want to be radiated or cut open. Maybe if I put my mind to it I can cure this without treatment!

So please, if I sound mean to anyone here, know that I don't mean it. And while I hate to ask to be cut some slack I really think I need that right now. Just for a tiny little while.

Hi Amy,

I have no idea if this would work or not but you might want to investigate low dose Naltrexone for the treatment of Graves. Here is a link to google sites:

Hang in there.

When I first started cpap, I took my mask off nearly every night. The solution that worked for me was putting a hair clip through my hair and the top strap of my headgear. That way, when I started to take my mask off, it would wake me up, because I was pulling my hair out as well.

Hi panda,
Yes, the first two days I wore a mask this happened. The RT told me that this would happen, and I didn't really believe it till it happened. It stopped after that. I guess the body is going "what the heck is this weird thing..does not belong on my face". Finally, the mask becomes a natural part of your face, lol.

All the best,
Dreaming

Its 2 a.m and I'm up. Like up, up. The DME gave me the older model Swif F/X but I don't like that one either. Those Swift pillow masks are so loud to me. The sound of my rattling breath just makes me feel anxious. I started out the night with the Aloha and again woke up at 1:30 with the noise and the blowing---my eye was so dry and my throat hurt (I sleep on my side and it just seems to move the mask so much). But I was so determined. So I got up and tried the Swift again. All that did was push me over to all the way awake. I could just cry. I'm so tired. I don't feel good. I need to sleep. And this sucks. I am not having a positive mindset right now at 2 in the morning.

I think I'm gonna send the Aloha back to cpap.com and have my husband take the Swift back to the DME and I don't know what. Find a new DME with a bigger selection than my current one.
