I think another part of the problem here, is with written communication itself. It differs from verbal or face to face communication in the fact that we can't take inflection from written word.. all we see is the words themselves. So a comment that seems to be hateful, could have just been an innocent attempt to inject humor in the conversation to keep it light. /sarcasm and other such doctorings only go so far... and are not commonly used.
Not all information gets outdated... Sure technology does, I don't miss having to set your own IRQ's, I don't even remember what DME (DMA Direct memory access?) means in the sense your using it.. if I ever did. Some information however is priceless. Just think, if you have/had kids.. you've probably watched them make the same mistakes you did, or had seen someone else make. Ever try to talk sense into them? Like talking to a wall. I wish I would have listened more to some adults that were trying to be helpful.. my life might have been a little easier than it had been... That kind of wisdom does not change with the ages.
Y'all take care, I'm going kayaking

Re: Cosmo
I was trying to apologize to Cosmo because of a comment I made that I meant to be funny but I was later afraid he might have taken offence. Sometimes I think I am really funny and I forget that not everyone gets my humor. I really like seeing all of this support for Cosmo.Nooblakahn wrote:I think another part of the problem here, is with written communication itself. I see some comment (not on this thread though) that I don't like. Later I will see the persons go way overboard helping a desperate person. There are some threads that are just a train wreck but I deep watching. I just can't seem to help myself.
I have always tried to be helpful but I have made comments that are way off base and I have been corrected. I appreciate the corrections. They help me too. If I only wanted my own opinion I would just open a word document and do fake posts. We do need different opinions if we are going to learn anything. That being said I feel like everyone here is a very valuble member of this forum (maybe with the exception of one) I don't listen to all the advice I get here. Maybe I should but I just weigh it out for what I think is right for me.
I don't think this forum would be very helpful if everyone agreed. There would only be one machine and one mask recomended for example. I have learned so much here and would never have been successful wiith my therapy without the information available here. I still have so much to learn. If my foggy brain cleared up it would go faster for sure.

I agree with you and find it interesting... maybe people didn't get the sarcasm in many of his posts. I ignored them for the most part... but they sure were there. After a bit I stopped reading his posts... decided he was "no Nooblakan".49er wrote: I am kind of amazed that no one has even mentioned Cosmo's part in this whole issue.

I have noticed that some members can be kind of snarky, but my reasoning is to just ignore it....repay snark with kindness

Porete... that is really nice... seriously... but not always easy to do - especially when the "snarky" happens over and over - and it seems it's always the same people. I am getting better at taking what works and leaving the rest... most of the time.porete wrote:ems wrote:49er wrote: I am kind of amazed that no one has even mentioned Cosmo's part in this whole issue.

Re: Cosmo
You're right, it's not human nature to be kind to those who snark for seemingly trivial reasons...I confess I would much prefer to snark in return, but I'm learning that it is better to be silent online as well as in real life. I try to remember this acronym - Only say (or type) what is:ems wrote:Porete... that is really nice... seriously... but not always easy to do - especially when the "snarky" happens over and over - and it seems it's always the same people. Re: Cosmo
I am sad to see Cosmo has taken his ball and gone home. I think he was a valuable contributor for the most part, occasional snark but that's okay too... I'm surprised he left as the adult thing to do is first cool off then work things out. Hopefully he'll be back after a time to reflect and consider his role in the whole deal. I don't know what caused the blow up, hopefully it is fixable...
