I always thought Mollete was a girl for some reason People should specify their gender on here. I also did thought 49er was a guy for the longest time.

Cosmo, if you wrongly assumed that because I used the name of a sports team as an acronym that I was a male, that is on you, not me. You have noticed that the fans at sporting events aren't all male, right?

Pandatx, I hope you will forgive me for this off topic response.

Why is everyone getting so uptight around here. This why I've been posting less and less.

Awhile back, someone thought I was a guy--totally ignored my little pink "F".
Didn't really matter; it was a troll.

I switched from a PR Amara to the Aloha, and I LURVE it! If you're anything like me, I'll bet you like it too. But unfortunately, no telling without trying.

I was really worried that I would mouth breathe, I even tried a chin strap and taping my mouth. But it really hasn't been an issue, now I use it without a strap or tape, and I only occasionally mouth breathe.

What I did have an issue with was rainout from exhalation. I ordered a barrel cozy and a short hose cover from Pad a Cheek, but so far they haven't arrived. In the mean time I've had to raise my bedroom temp to combat the rainout, and that has caused a bit of difficulty sleeping.

BTW, Karen at Padacheek told me that the Barrel Cozies for the Swift LT work with the Aloha.

Good luck!

Right now, we are "gathering information". Let's see what's on the diagnostic NPSG.
However, make sure you get both studies while you're there.
And the ResScan D/L. That needs breath-by-breath analysis in an effort to determine what it is that needs fixing:
Despite a lesser effect of sleep on the nose compared with the oral cavity, changes in nasal patency do occur. Nasal resistance is known to increase during recumbency, as mucosal congestion takes place. An underlying limitation on nasal airflow, which may be subclinical during the daytime while upright, may become manifest at nighttime shortly after lying down. Any process that produces nasal congestion while awake has an additive effect on nasal airflow during sleep.
http://www.sleepgs.com/articles/rhinome ... 69612#PDFP

If the "ripping the mask off in the middle of the night" is due to nasal occlusion, it won't matter how many different nasal interfaces you try, they ain't gonna work, and the aforementioned suggestion of FFM would seem to be a more potentially fruitful approach.

BTW, did you know that if you completely clog up somebody's nose you can generate central apneas?

Certainly, when you see your next ENT, the question that needs to be asked is:

"Can I breathe through my nose effectively when I'm asleep?"

Because I have often (OK, not often)(perhaps occasionally)(OK, HARDLY EVER!) wondered if Breathe Right Strips have a place in the SDB discussion. They increase nasal airflow by about 26 LPM, or an average of 0.5 cm H20/LPS (from an average nasal resistance of 5.5 cm H20/LPS) in this study:

So if one has an exclusive nasal airway problem, why not toss one on? Or if one has OSA with concomitant nasal obstruction being treated with xPAP, wear one under the mask?

That being said, one might postulate that this proposed benefit would not be realized when employing a pillows-type interface.

Hi Mollete, I'm in the same spot with my request for detailed reports from my 2 sleep studies/titration. Where did you get Alice? Do you know of a source that I could use? Thanks.

I know they got my request but they still have not responded. These f-ing people. I just don't have the patience for this. I don't feel good and I resent having to spend energy dealing with them right now. But I will.

Mollete is in the trade, so to speak. He has "alice" at work.

Okay, so I just talked to the sleep center. The guy kept saying "you want the raw data? its just numbers and stuff. you wont' be able to read it". And I said that yes, that was what I wanted. He said he'd have it for me on Monday. Am I getting the correct thing?

Not sure why it wouldn't help with pillow interface. Explain, please?

If I was in your shoes, yes I would request the raw data AND I would ask for a complete print out as well. I would also let them know you were insulted by the comment of 'you won't be able to read it'. In most states (I know it is in Indiana and Kentucky) you have a legal right to 1 printed copy and 1 electronic copy without charge. Anything beyond 1 copy & they can charge you, but just in case they leave something out of the print copy, getting the data electronically & viewing on Alice is a very good idea. I'm assuming Molette will hook you up with a copy of Alice.

I know you are dealing with a lot right now. Multiple medical diagnosis, especially when they some close together can be hard to handle on an emotional and a physical level. I had a whopper throw at me on Monday of this week, so I really understand right now. Hang in there it will all work out, you are doing the right stuff, keep working on the OSA until it is determined that OSA is not a problem. For what its worth, sounds like to me that the OSA is probably a part of the issue, Graves Disease just got diagnosed around the same time. I can see why someone might think the Graves could be the culprit, since Graves may have caused airway obstruction, but I had a boss years ago with Graves & I don't remember any swelling in her airway, she was diagnosed by sky high blood pressure that didn't respond to treatment after several months.

Hang in there & PM me if you need a shoulder to lean on from someone who's been there & is there again now.
Jen
