I've had some complaints quite a bit like yours, mostly for the last six months tho I usually do manage to get enough sleep every night to get by. I've asked for help with my insomnia on this forum and three or four times various members have mentioned getting my thyroid checked. By and large, I ignored that advice and looked for my solutions in the realm CPAP. Now that I've finally given in and had my thyroid checked (a simple blood test) I'm going to see an endocrinologist this week. Yes, two if my thyroid levels are off and most likely are the major cause of my insomnia, according to my GP. I'll know more next week.
The moral of this is that you should get your thyroid and other glands screened for potential problems, especially relating to sleep disorders. Sleeplessness, a racing heart and AF are some of the early signs of thyroid dysfunction. You mentioned 'fear of hospitals' and 'lab coat syndrome' so ask your doctor for something to take to help you deal with the stress of a blood test, that is, if you feel you need help. Good luck and let us know how things work out.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
