That was my thought. I started steaming my filters then the hose and masks. I even did the short hose on my swift fx. I guess there is a big difference in steamers or maybe hoses. I have done this many times with no problems so I thought I would share. I just felt like crying when dlanbro had such a horrible experience. I am so glad he has forgiven me.dlanbro wrote:Thanks for the info Q. I'll try it. I'm not germaphobic but it just seems to me that using this equipment night after night it would need to be sterilized every now and then.

I believe there is a difference in the plastic used in the disposable tank and the dishwasher-safe tank.
The disposable tank may contain plastic with a lower melting point.

I am an old man, not in very good health and have been using CPAP for maybe 15(?) years. I wash in soap and warm water the mask parts that touch my skin every week. Other than that I never clean anything else and it hasn't killed me yet and I haven't had any kind of infection in the past year.dlanbro wrote:Thanks for the info Q. I'll try it. There have been debates on here with strong opinions on either extreme. So suit yourself.

Got a new hose and reservior yesterday. The DME gave me the more sturdy washable tank. It fits tighter in the humidifier and honestly I think that it helped with my dry mouth. Maybe this was a good thing over all. Now just to deal with my mask leaks. LOL. I have an appointment on friday to get fitted with a new one, hopefully that will make things that much better.

I've dunked the old style non-openable tank into boiling water. I haven't seen one of the new ones.chunkyfrog wrote:I believe there is a difference in the plastic used in the disposable tank and the dishwasher-safe tank.

However, that's a good point. The spec I quoted is for the dishwashable tank.
