Hello kohrmy,
Welcome, though belated.
First of all, I am wondering if you are a screenwriter? Some of your terms and posts, at length, in such detail, remind one of the great epics. Very well done!
It sounds like over the last few days, you're starting to move toward success. The last issue having to do with water level in the humidifier, possibly running dry.
With regard to water usage out of a humidifier chamber, though all variables mentioned so far are relevant, the most important element in my opinion is leak level. Air, unintentionally escaping from your circuit, can either cause no water usage, or lots. I remember years ago, I had tech support on the phone troubleshooting a heater, and the tech told me to block the airflow from the machine. He said the plate won't heat up if air free flows out of the cpap. Come to find out, anything above about 15 liters per minute stops the current from flowing to the plate heating the water. At low level leakage however, 5-15 LPM, the plate tries to keep up pumping more and more water out.
Good luck and please keep posting, you have a very interesting story!
Jim
