Yes, pretty much the way I feel about it!

In response to a comment I made, you posted the above question.

No, I do not consider it superior. Rather it has more flexibility in terms of therapy settings. For instance, the Resmed unit does not have the auto adjustment of the EPAP to address obstructive sleep apnea. But not everyone needs that. In fact some people find the change of EPAP disturbs their sleep.

But then I don't find the Resmed unit vastly superior to the Respironics unit. However, if the Resmed unit works, then just the fact that it is less expensive is an obvious advantage.

Let's say rather, that I think the appropriate unit for YOUR needs is the superior unit. Of course, the reality for most of us is that based on our DME we don't have a choice but to go with one unit or the other.

Hope that helps.
Thanks John that was very helpfully. I was also wondering if the Resmed s9 vpap asv machine is a significant upgrade over the adapt asv enhanced based on the S8 model. I know that the ability to track the results using computer software is much improved but are there any significant clinical improvements? I ask it because I've got an ASV adapt enhanced machine and I'm seeing my sleep doctor, a neuroligist, on April 10 and i was wondering if it is worth getting the newer model if she eventually prescribes an asv machine. I seem to have complex apnea based on greater than 50% centrals and my ahi averaging around 10 on cpap treatment. THe asv machine didn't make a significant difference but then I'm setting it myself without knowing what i'm doing

I'm glad it did help. I don't always get feedback, so I appreciate it when someone lets me know it helps clarify things.

If you've not been officially prescribed an ASV unit and you can get your insurance / government / whatever agency to pay for it, I would recommend getting a newer model. Why? The ability to track the therapy helps a lot - especially when you have something to amiss. For example, I found that I could track down leak issues by reading the data ... or ineffective pressure settings. And adjust them (very methodically) using that data.

So, I would recommend going the route of the newer machine so you can track your therapy.

Okay, back to the original topic.

On the script:

Respironics System One Bipap ASV with heated humidifier (anyone know the model number? I didn't see it on CPAP.COM, but may have missed it.)

EPAP = 6, MinIPAP = 10, MaxIPAP = 14

Mask of Patient's Choice

No Substitutions -- Dispense as Written.

Not on the doctor's list, but items I will get for myself:

8 foot hose, because of the way my set up sits by the bed. Have a backup hose.

Cardreader -- this ASV will use an SD card, but while my home computer has an SD slot, my travel computer does not. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... igodigital

Software -- still not sure which one would be best, but will probably get this from CPAP.COM, also, unless Sleepyhead will work with the ASV, and I can figure out how to install it. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/encore ... igodigital

Questions:

Does anyone know the model number of the ASV I am looking at?

Does anyone know if Sleepyhead reads this machine's data? I do not believe it reads my current Beastie's data.

Does Sleepyhead work on a Windows XP machine?

Have I left anything out?

Nothing against our host, but if funds are an issue, then any SDHC (note the "HC" part) can read the PR System One ASV memory card. For example:

EncoreBasic will do the job. Pugsy can point you toward that.

The software you listed will not work with the new ASV unit:
EncoreViewer Does Not Work With:
  • PR System One REMstar BiPAP Auto SV Advanced

Kiralynx wrote:... Questions:

It's the "PR System One REMstar BiPAP Auto SV Advanced". There are two variants:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/PR-Sys ... anced.html
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-60- ... anced.html

The second one is the newer model. In particular, the change is as follows:
The PR System One REMstar 60 Series BiPAP Auto SV Advanced has all the best features of the PR System One REMstar BiPAP Auto SV Advanced along with the option of an integrated heated hose.
Kiralynx wrote:... Does anyone know if Sleepyhead reads this machine's data? I do not believe it reads my current Beastie's data. ...
It seems to be hit and miss. I've seen a few people for whom it works, but very few. EncoreBasic does work with it. EncoreViewer does NOT work with it.
Kiralynx wrote:... Does Sleepyhead work on a Windows XP machine? ...
Not sure. Pugsy can provide advice there.
Kiralynx wrote:... Have I left anything out? ...
Don't think so.

Hope all that helps.
