Thanks!
My first week has been phenomenal! Best week of sleep I've had in years. I haven't had one cat nap, felt like dozing while driving. It's not perfect yet, but it gets better everyday. I actually got an AHI of 1.1 last night! I was so excited this morning, and boy can I tell a difference. My energy level is very good.
I guess I shouldn't expect miracles over night, but sometimes things happen faster for some than others. I think I was that bad off, that any difference is a miracle for me. The S9 is great. You'll love it. Make sure you come back here for any support, questions, or just wanna talk! Keep us updated!

Guest wrote:Awesome to read all the updates. Very enlightening. I wrote in a previous "guest" entry (haven't made an account yet..but I will!) that I just had my first sleep study and am awaiting the same machine to come. What I found very helpful was the info about your AHI spiking to 120 your last hour of sleep, and someone commenting that you were probably restless and it was inaccurate. So, at my sleep study, I laid in bed with just monitoring on, no cpap, and after 50 minutes, the tech came in and put me on the machine. Then 5 hours later, woke me up and sent me on my way. So for that first 50 minutes, I never felt like I was asleep--I remember the blinking red light on the vcr bothering me the WHOLE 50 minutes. So I got my report in the mail, and guess what? For those lame 50 minutes of the study (without cpap), my AHI was 121. It has put everyone in a panic about my "severe sleep apnea" and that I need a machine "right away" (with a lot of urgency in their voices). So now I'm really questioning the validity of the whole sleep study. I will admit I've snored my whole life, and have been told I breath hold. So I'm definitely not disputing that I have sleep apnea, I just doubt my true AHI is really 121. Can you really get an accurate AHI with a 50 minute study? They titrated the cpap over the next few hours, and set me up with 10cm of pressure (but even that, I think the mask was leaking a bit). Anyhways, any thoughts from all you reading these posts?
I wish they would have mailed me the results. I never really got an explanation from the sleep clinic, or my Dr. Not very good if you ask me. I was just told that I need to be set for 12. It made me really feel like neither of these people really cared, I was just a number. But, oh well. I never go to the Dr. anyway, and I'll keep him as long as he is cool about anything I need for the cpap. I'd still like to see a detailed report.

With the new mask (Comfort Gel Blue) I got an AHI of 1.27 last night. Let me tell you I really could feel a difference today. Energy level was a lot higher. Went to work 6am-3pm, then to downtown Disney to meet a high school friend and watch 'Oz: The great and powerful'. Great movie btw. Never nodded off or got sleepy. Just got home and still kickin'. Funny thing is, I woke up in the middle of the night and I had the mask on my forehead. Was off for a little while, but quickly put it back on when I realized what happened. Still had good numbers with that happening. Keep motivated newbie's (like myself) !!!

Congratulations. Awesome good report and more importantly...you feel you slept well and can feel the difference today.
The mask on the top of the head thing...we blame that on the aliens. The same ones that put my nasal pillows in one of my ears one night. They just like to mess with us sometimes.
Good job.
Amazing what a good mask fit and comfort will accomplish isn't it?
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

Armand let me put it in simple form
ResMed newest series is the S9 series.S9 Escape is like the Ford Fiesta, S9 Elite is a little better with better recording capabilities like a Ford Focus. These are standard CPAPs. Now you get into the S9 Autoset which has auto capability and comparable to a Ford Taurus. Next you have your Bilevel machines which ResMed calls VPAP (Varible Positve Airway Pressure) which is getting into top of the line like your Lincoln...Vpap comes in Auto, S/T (Sync Time) or ADAPT SV (servo ventilation). Hope my comparing to cars helped a bit but if you have any questions just ask. Respironics newest model in a nutshell in same order are DS460HS (std cpap) DS460TS (std cpap w/heated wire tubing)
DS560HS (auto cpap) DS560TS (auto cpap w/heated wire tubing) DS760HS (Bipap or Bi level) DS760TS (Bipap or Bilevel w/heated wire tubing)
Really hope this helps you!

Great to hear you are doing so well. I like the S9 but wish it had an alarm for when leaks are too high for a certain amount of time, like removing the mask in my sleep etc. Other than that I love it. As far as AHI your body will get use to low numbers and demand them. When I started an AHI of 15 made me feel great! Now days anything over AHI 1 and I notice I do not feel as good. Its like my body got use to the good rest and wants it all the time now. Anything under 10 is doable though, when I get 5-7 I am a little run down, 2-5 I just feel a little sleep hangover and anything under 1 I feel like a million bucks. If I forget to put on my mask by falling alseep too soon I feel terrible, soar throat etc and just want to stay home. The machine has saved my life.
