S9 Escape Auto...so upset
S9 Escape Auto...so upset
I'm so upset. I just went to my Sleep doctor and they got me all set up with the machine and then the tech told me it was the S9 Escape Auto. I told him I didn't want anything with Escape in the title but of course couldn't find the info I'd printed off. He said he wasn't sure why that would be and that the older machines didn't give data but this one did. He said the only thing it didn't give with the oxygen info. Well, when I got home I looked this up and that's not true. It gives hardly any data at all. I'm not going to use it, of course, but am now worried that they'll give me a hard time about returning it.
I'm furious.

You have every right to be angry.
Folks with more experience regarding this situation should answer your post at some point. But while you are waiting, you might want to go to this link and read this article:
http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/2011/0 ... h-a-brick/
And if your sleep doctor is that clueless, I would consider looking for someone else. Of course, I know from personal experience that is easier said than done.
Best of luck.

As long as you don't use it (which can be verified by them when you bring it back), there should be no problem.
Tell them that the Escape doesn't provide sufficient EFFICACY DATA (it will show you onscreen AHI but nothing else). You need either the Elite or the Autoset for full data.

Thank you for the replies. We were still paying our deductible when I had my studies and this process has cost us a fortune. To have mentioned that I didn't want the Escape and to be told incorrect info so that I would take it, ...well, I'm pretty upset. And I really hate it that now I have to be that crazy lady who has to be the pain in the ass.

Re: S9 Autoset Escape...so upset
They tried the same thing with me. The tech looked very shocked when I said I wouldn't take an Escape but agreed to an Elite. I said I wanted an Autset and he said no.
That's when I asked for my Rx so I could go elsewhere. After a few minutes in he back room he said my Autoset would be there in a few days. He just had to get it approved by the finance department. I felt like I was buying a car.
Stick up for yourself. If you had a copay threaten to stop the check or contest the charge with the credit card company. It's your money and your health, don't let them tell you what you can and can not do.
Good luck.

You shouldn't think of yourself this way. You are an educated consumer and insist on having what you are entitled to have.pandatx wrote:And I really hate it that now I have to be that crazy lady who has to be the pain in the ass.
Go in calmly, armed with the documentation to PROVE you know what you are talking about and politely tell them you will NOT accept anything less than what you are legitimately entitled to -- and that is a machine with efficiacy (I like to call it 'therapy related') data, NOT just compliance data.

He's a liar or an idiot or both.pandatx wrote: He said the only thing it didn't give with the oxygen info.
None of the S9's will give oxygen information. That requires a totally different attachment to the S9 interface. A very special pulse oximeter that will record over night oxygen levels and incorporate them into the S9 machine data.
If he says the Escape Auto provides every other bit of information...ask him to show you how it provides leak data...he can't because all it will ever show is hours of use...overall AHI and average pressure.

So, here's his reply to me:
Amy,
I have forwarded your email to our billing manager. Upgrading to the s9 Autoset generally incurs a $120 price premium. The data most needed by the doctor is pressures and AHI information The only other information passed on by the Autoset is leak.
I would have to order in a unit if you want to upgrade.

Re: S9 Autoset Escape...so upset
That is what they call the upcharge.
Illegal with Medicare, also with most insurers.
Ask for your prescription again.
If it does not specify autotitrating, with full treatment data, go back to the doc and get one that does.

Re: S9 Autoset Escape...so upset
That's total BS. I didn't have to spend one extra nickel to get my S9 AutoSet.
Ask them if they have ever heard of things like Tidal Volume, Flow Limit, or Flow Rate. When they say, no, the machine doesn't log that data, give them your Escape back, ask for your prescription and go elsewhere and get what you need.

NLJT is correct:
If there is another DME in network, it is easier to take your money elsewhere, than it is to fight these pigs.

Re: S9 Autoset Escape...so upset
And another lie. Simply not true. You can see what all is offered in the ResScan tutorial video.pandatx wrote:The only other information passed on by the Autoset is leak.
http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/resscan_tutorial/
The up charge may or may not be a legal fee. You would need to check with your insurance to make sure.
If your insurance is Medicare...I don't believe they can do that without an ABN.
http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/dont-p ... -upcharge/
Do you have any other DMEs that you can get your supplies from? This is something your insurance can tell you.
I would be shopping for another DME if I were in your shoes.
Lie to me once...I might forget but lie to me twice and try to screw me at the same time then I would be voting with my pocketbook and taking my business elsewhere.

Re: S9 Autoset Escape...so upset
Hi Amy, and grrrrrrr! Here is a link to the ResMed website page where you can directly compare the S9 Autoset and the S9 Escape Auto side-by-side. Perhaps you'd enjoy delivering a copy of the comparison chart to the guy who's telling you there's no significant differences between the two machines.pandatx wrote:So, here's his reply to me:
