Sleep Music

Post by Stormynights » Sat Mar 23, 2013 7:58 pm

I need recommendations for some sleep music or sounds for my MP3 player. I have been having so much trouble getting and staying asleep. I don't want to take any pills so I thought I would try relaxing music. Any Ideas?

I like his stuff, it plays for almost 30 minutes for each piece. I have several of his CD's that I used to play when I did massage. They are very smooth and also good for meditation.
I have these ones:

Sometimes music just isn't enough for me, and if I havem the TV on I keep wanting to open my eyes and watch it… I found that listening to books or magazines works on those occasions. I downloaded a bunch of them and some music from http://www.jw.org/en they are all free and the subjects are relaxing, and upbuilding for me.

Some people have good results when using binaural beats on their MP3 players to help them sleep.

Hi,

I am thinking of getting sleep phones. How comfortable are they for a side sleeper?

I use an app call "sleep machine" you can customize which sounds you like and it has a timer.
i like rain with wind chimes but there are a lot of choices.
also i use a air fliter machine it make a good "white" noise which helps too.

Since around mid-December, I have been sleeping every night with headphones that I've had for years. They are Maxell NCII headphones, light, and include Noise suppression. I normally put on an ASMR track (no talking) which is about 45mins long and have it just end, no looping. This means that after the track ends, there is just silence except Noise suppression is still on. If I wake up to adjust, pull over the covers or whatnot, I repeat the track and just go back to sleep.

Typically, I now fall asleep in 5 mins or so, the track takes my mind of of just about everything else and I get distracted at night much less..

I can still hear the phone ring, knocking on the door, but for example this morning we had rain, I didn't hear that at all.

As a stomach sleeper, I have no real problems getting comfortable wearing them along with FFM.

I have the Sleep phones, and the cord is ridiculously short!
Unless your device is right in the bed, it will end up on the floor!

I have been listening to soft instrumental New Age type music on a station called 'Aura' through my satellite television provider. I use the sleep function on my television to set the timer for the desired length of time, then go to sleep. Been working great for me.

Seriously, can anyone answer my question? How do they feel for side sleepers?

You posted to the end of an old thread about "Sleep Music" that was last posted in on Mar 27, 2013. Most are responding to that, Sleep Music in general not about "sleep phones" specifically.

Never used them, had to look them up to know what they are. After looking at the page about them... some comments...

1) At $40 or more, might be pricey if the other issues are a problem.
2) might interfere with your mask depending one what type of mask you are using
3) Looks to me like they might get hot, especially during the summer time.

The headphones that I use cost around $19 when I bought them. I've had them for many years and I use them now every night. I am not a side sleeper though I can roll over on my side and still wear them. It would really depend on the mask you use, if the cord gets in the way, and how you position your head.

Most likely the only way you will know is to try them.

Sleep phones are pricey for what you get, and, as I mentioned before, the cord is too short to be useful.

Music drives me bonkers when I'm trying to sleep. I either want to participate (sing, hum, whistle, conduct) or I want to throw a brick at repetitive "relaxation" music. ("If I hear that musical phrase one more time, I'm going postal"). That does NOT relax me.

Talk, for some reason relaxes me. So I listen to podcasts--I use the Stitcher app on my iPhone. The subjects being discussed invade my dreams in interesting and strange ways on occasion, and if they feature any music they wake me up, so I can't even deal with someone who has a heavy metal theme song to introduce his podcast (Robb Wolf I'm looking at YOU).

I'm trying to wean myself off of this. I'd like to learn to sleep without anything, because I don't like having to have my head a certain way for the pillow speaker and I think there may be other, subtle and undesirable effects on my sleep and my brain--maybe it interferes with restorative sleep???? And having to look at the screen occasionally, even with it much dimmed, may interfere with melatonin production--so it may be the CAUSE of some of my sleep maintenance issues.

I'm just beginning to learn mindfulness meditation techniques. I can get to sleep with them, but when I wake in the middle of the night, I still need the podcasts to get back to sleep. I'm hoping as my "meditation muscle" gets stronger I will no longer need the podcasts.
