Do you drive if you're sleep deprived? (Poll)

Post by quietmorning » Sat Mar 16, 2013 7:44 pm

My husband and I just had a conversation about how I am going to get to my sleep study tomorrow.
If it isn't an emergency, and after 2pm when I start getting really fatigued, I haven't been driving. I stopped when I went to my last sleep doc appointment and really had a difficult time paying attention to the road (and every one else, for that matter.)
He's going to take me to the sleep study and pick me up the next morning. He said he will call in late for work and tell his boss his wife had to sleep with the sleep tech. (har. har. )

What say you?

I feel we should add an option for used too. As some of us did dumb stuff when we were younger.

I found out that if I add or take from the poll, it erases all the answers that are there. . .so yeah - I call it the young and dumb age. . .

How about an option that says, "I'd be an idiot if I ever acknowledged to anyone that I ever drove tired even though everyone drives tired, especially the doctor who will now report you to the DMV"?

If you drive sleep deprived you are basically driving drunk.

Before cpap, I always drove sleep-deprived, since I always was.
Now, I don't feel sleep deprived, ever.
I average over 7 hours of sleep, with an average of an hour deep and an hour 25 minutes REM.
This machine has changed my life. I still drive like a crazy little amphibian.

I used to, and looking back it's a miracle there wasn't a catastrophic result. When I was new here another forum member pleaded with me to stop. The year before he had lost his wife who fell asleep at the wheel just a mile from making it home. I once fell asleep at the wheel and missed hitting a truck by inches and I was less than 2 blocks from home. I did finally quit until my status changed. It was hard to give up my independence and inconvenience others to take me to appointments, but I think hospitals or a funeral would inconvenience them much more. In the end, it was my fear of killing someone innocent that made me face reality that I was a road hazard. The time did come that I was safe to resume driving, but it was a carefully measured effort.

Kteague, I think that's what keeps me from getting behind the wheel right now. . . someone else's child, or mother, or brother, or father . . . .I couldn't live with myself if I took someone's life.

For me working in the construction industry and working on oil rigs; its

If I feel like I can POTENTIALLY harm someone there is no way I will drive or even work!

Safety is our number 1 priority!

Before I would do desk work most of the days due to how tired I was, now I get the chance to be out in the fields almost every day!

Yep. I agree. I hope that the kind of emergency I WOULD drive never happens, because it would mean life or death, and I have no business behind a wheel if I can't be attentive.

ha! I know doctors don't get much sleep, yet they will be the ones to report to the DMV that their patient is too tired to drive.

In today's society where people are quick to call a lawyer when anything happens how could anyone post on a public forum that they do this?

Post here that you knowingly drive while impaired and then get in an accident, be prepared to have your words used against you, this could be the most expensive post of your life.

Of course I would never drive while impaired by anything including sleep, for any reason. And now it is documented.
