How to boil nasal pillows for re-use

Post by jencat824 » Fri Mar 15, 2013 4:32 pm

I've looked & can't find the instructions I know are on this site somewhere. Does anyone remember the formula for how to boil nasal pillows to reuse & make them last longer. I think I may have found a mask that is perfect for me - the Swift LT. The mask is comfortable, works well with my hair (a big plus), and seals great (for the first 2 wks). This is the most comfortable mask I've used so far - even better than my old nasal mask, the IQ.

The only bad news about this is the nasal pillow seems to last just under 2 weeks, then will no longer hold a seal. When I replace the pillow, seals fine & I keep repeating the process, but I want to save & reuse my pillows if possible.

Two weeks seems a very short time for something like this to last, I've never had any CPAP items wear out so quickly, but its worth buying enough if necessary. If I can boil & reuse, that is my first choice, my insurance will pay for some replacement cushions, but I don't think they will replace every two weeks. I will buy the rest if I have to, just wanted to pursue the boil & reuse route first.

Somewhere in my very tiny brain, I think Chunkyfrog mentioned she does this. If so, Frog can you help me out?

Thanks,
Jen

You may want to try some Lansinoh on the inside rim of your nostrils. I use nasal pillows and it helps with irritation and sealing quite a bit.

Yes, I agree this works for irritation, but the seal just seems 'wear out' after about 2 weeks, so I wanted to try boiling. When I read the boil instructions, it seems I've got the opposite problem. My pillows get too 'soft & squishy' not too 'stiff' so they don't seal - the stiff ones seal best for me. I'm going to try boiling anyway & hope this works.

I tried the boiling trick with baking soda and I couldn't tell any difference with my nasal pillows but maybe mine were too far gone.
Discussed here along with the cushions and baking soda amounts.
