Humidification Resmed S8

Post by mustang1967 » Thu Mar 07, 2013 6:20 am

After using a Fisher and Paykel HC series for almost 10yrs I am now using a ResMed S8. I never had any problems with humidification with the Fisher and Paykel. I am now having issues with the new ResMed not being able to provide enough humidification throughout the night. I am awakening after about 4hrs of sleep with nasty dry mouth and nose while there is still about 1/4-1/2 the water still in the humidifier. My pressure setting is 13 and realize that is a bit high but still can't understand why it seems as though the ResMed stops delivering humidification after 3 or 4 hrs of sleep. Anyone else experience this? If so has anyone come up with a solution? Any advice?

Are you using the h3i humidifier or the h4i? And are you using the highest humidity setting?

I have the S8 with the H3i...I have the setting on 2 and the tank lasts 3 nights for me with plenty of humidification. Are you sure that you are not mouth breathing? What mask are you using? Do you have lots of leaks?

H3I is what came with the machine. Yes, it is turned all the way up right now. I have tried experimenting on different settings. My ENT, wants the humidifier on higher settings in the winter due to sinus issues and indoor allergies. I am using the full face quattro. Been using the quattro for many years now. I just don't feel as though the humidifier is delivering the same humidification as the Fisher and Paykel did, despite mask leaks and mouth breathing.

During the production lifetime of the S8, ResMed redesigned the H3i into the H4i. The H4i is supposed to deliver 30% more humidity than the H3i.

ResMed also offered a H3i to H4i conversion kit. THe Cpap.com appears to be out of this kit. I did, however, find it on thecpappeople.com for $36. Here's a link to: http://www.thecpappeople.com/Products/R ... 26959.aspx

If you do a google search for "H3i H4i kit" you'll find other suppliers that have the kit.

Note that the S8 menu humidifier setting shows "H3i" regardless of whether the H3i or H4i is connected. Electronically they are the same.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I have been now able to find information on the upgrade. I hope this solves the problem.

fisher and paykel are known to have the best humidifiers.
Hopefully upgrading to h4i will be an improvement

Come to think of it are you sure you have the H3i? As I mentioned, the S8 will show "H3i" in the settings menu regardless of which humidifier is connected.

As I understand it, the H3i has a round heat plate under the water chamber, whereas the H4i heat plate follows the contours of the chamber.
