BREEZE Nasal Pillows Mask Discontinued?NEW MASK SUGGESTIONS?

Post by MarylandCPAPer » Fri Mar 01, 2013 4:55 pm

I have been notified by my DME that Breeze Nasal Pillows masks have been discontinued. Does anyone have any suggestions for a similar mask? I liked tte Breeze nasal pillows mask because it has nothing on the sides of the face. I had dental pain from using the Swift LT, the Opus 360, and the the Optilife nasal pillows masks.

The DME suggested a WISP mask as a replacement, but from looking at the picture, it would not work for me at all. I need a mask that does not have straps that go across the jaw area.

If anyone knows someplace I can buy a Breeze mask that accepts Blue Cross/ Carefirst health insurance, please let me know.

Thank you for any help or suggestions!

The Breeze is still available online. I haven't heard of it being discontinue but maybe it is or maybe your DME doesn't plan to stock it anymore.

They don't accept insurance though. Try a different DME in your area maybe????

There's a brand new mask just released a couple of days ago called the Tap Pap. Watch the forum for discussion and reviews...mine is supposed to arrive by little brown truck this evening.

The Tap Pap looks interesting. I wear a dental appliance for TMJ. I will be looking forward to reviews on the Tap Pap.

I haven't seen a breeze in years!

Check out the fisher and paykel pilairo, or the swift fx.

The DME says that the company that made the Breeze has gone out of business and they will not be able to get the Breeze or its components anymore.

They came up with a suggested replacement that they call Invacare Twilight NP Headgear ISP2500. They said it was previously called AEIOMED Headgear. They came up with an old one that evidently has been on their shelves for a long time, because when I went to pick it up and try it out, the nasal pillows had a musty smell, even though the mask and nasal pillows were in sealed plastic bags.

The DME said they will be able to get supplies for this mask because it is now sold as Invacare. It is a nasal pillows mask. I did not see the exact model on cpap.com, although they had a Twilight II, which is not the same mask.

The mask seemed to fit my needs and I will try it after cleaning all the parts with detergent so I eliminate the musty basement smell.

It's a great mask. I tweaked it by cutting off the rubber strap and replacing it with a Comfortlite 2 strap.

It's the Headrest, and it's no longer being made. It WAS the Twilight, then they changed it to Headrest.

Your best bet is the Comfortlite 2, which is what I used before I found the Headrest.

The DME says that the AIEOMed Headrest is now being made by Invacare and sent me this link to it.
http://www.phc-online.com/CPAP_Headgear ... ght-np.htm

I did not find it on cpap.com

They said it is no longer available from AIEOMed but is still available from Invacare. Even though they= DME didn't stock it, they said they can get the Invacare mask and supplies for it.

I picked up an AIEOMED mask that had been on the shelves forever. Even though it was unopened in plastic, it has a musty smell. Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning to kill the musty smell? What is usually used for cleaning such nasal pillows?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know what all the panic is about.......they're still available from any number of suppliers for about $70.00 - $90.00.
Just because AEIOMed went out of business, doesn't mean that they're no longer available!!!
There are still (obviously) many of them (manufactured by Puritan Bennett) still in the "pipeline".
If you think you will ever want another one......BUY UP AS MANY OF THEM AS YOU THINK YOU WILL EVER NEED.....NOW!

Search criteria: "Breeze SleepGear Nasal Pillows Mask with Headgear"

Suppliers I checked from Google search:

cpap(dot)com
cpap-supply(dot)com
directhomemedical(dot)com
cpapwholesale(dot)com

Den ....(who has never tried one and never will)

They are still available - I got one delivered by the big brown truck just last week.

I've been told by DMEs and sleep centers for at least 5 years that it's being discontinued....I need to try something else...blah blah blah. But yet, I have one in my hands and brand spanking new as I type this.

Don't let anyone tell you you HAVE to switch...well actually you do need to switch....switch DMEs. Until I see something straight from Covidien/Puritan Bennett of it being discontinued...I refuse to believe it.

And what's what sleep centers pushing 'new' masks anyways. I'm going in for a re-titration later this week and even without knowing what I currently, they already tode me not to bring a mask, they have several to 'try out'.

I've been happy with my Breeze for 12 years - why they heck would I want to 'try out' a new type/brand??

The Breeze is available on cpap.com (as long as you're not looking for the "Large Dialator" model, won't mention what that makes me think of *smile*, but even that one is supposed to be available in a week, too):

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/purita ... rface.html

So there *smile*.

I think they'd be doing you a favor if they discontinued the Breeze. I spent many months tweaking and adjusting it only to get a barely passable fit. Since it was the first mask I ever used, I thought all masks would be that difficult. When I finally switched over to the Swift LT & Swift FX I came to know different.

I work for a DME and I have been trying to order the Breeze and it not available from Covidien. They had a minimum order level set very high and that is why many smaller DME companies couldn't afford to stock them. We rarely ever sold one and couldn't afford to stock a huge quantity that were going to sit on the shelf for two or three years. That being said years ago we sold quite a few. There are so many new masks now that are smaller, lighter and less cumbersome. And I am sure cheaper to make

The Swift has no mechanism to keep the pillows aligned: with higher pressures and especially if you are sleeping on your stomach, you need something to support the pillows and keep them aligned straight into your nose (the axis of symmetry of the pillow must be aligned with the axis of your nasal cavity) or it will leak. The Breeze has a rigid support that will do that, while the Swift just sits at the top of your nose hoping to keep a good seal.

I've had the medium-dilator pillows on order with my DME (Roth Medical's Sleep-Central) for over a month and they say the product does not show as discontinued but as backordered. CPAP.com has them for $27 shipped, for a single pair (which is overpriced). I'm thinking about calling the DME and asking them if they can provide a whole mask instead - maybe they'll have that in stock. I've only ordered three masks in the 12 years I'm on CPAP and that's only because they initially made the Breeze out of some fragile plastic that would break easily - I ended up reinforcing them but in the end I got one of the new ones, which seems to be made out of polycarbonate and is very strong.

I'm also developing a Fisher and Paykel Oracle oral mask as an alternative, but it'd be a shame if they stopped making something as nice as the Breeze.
