Site difficulties
I'm having continuous problems trying to send PMs. I complete the message and hit submit, and the site repeatedly rejects it saying I've defined no recipient or the code entered is wrong or both. I admit I can make the occasional mistake or even a typo --- but I've checked and rechecked and rechecked and this happens over and over - 8-9-10 times trying to send a single message.
What's wrong?
Oh and I have a message in my outbox that I thought I sent but apparently it didn't go out. I can open it but can't find any way to send it. Must I copy it and create a new message just to send/submit?

Re: Site difficulties
They stay in your out box until the recipient picks them up.
You can only send a message to one recipient at the time. It is easier to click on the little pm button under the avatar in a thread them to type in the member name.

Re: Site difficulties
That's strange. I wonder what "code" is being referred to in those error messages you're getting.
In addition to setting up a PM by clicking the PM button under the avatar, you can also do it by clicking the username in a post, below the thread title and just underneath the "Quote" button. You'll then see some info about the person and an option to "Send Private Message." This also sets up a message, pre-addressed by the system, so all you have to do is type a subject title and your message and hit Submit. And one more alternative: If the person you want to send a message to has PM'd you and the message is still in your Inbox, you can open that message and use "Reply" to send a new message to them.
Of course none of this fixes whatever the actual problem is, but they might at least be workarounds until it's resolved.

Re: Site difficulties
To clarify - the "code" I'm referencing is the 17XYK4 or whatever magic numbers/letters appear in the box that ou have to match to send a message. And by the way - haf the time that doesn't appear properly --- there's a little box like you see when you have a closed jpeg file - so I have to click submit and then it opens and I can fill in the box.
I'm also talking about creating an original PM - not replies, etc.
I type in the recipients name (In most recent case it was you kaiasgram) , then (if the box appears) type in the "matching" code, type my message and click submit --- and then, 9 times out of 10 ---- it does't go thru, the window reopens telling me I either have not specified a recipient (I did - I actually typed in the name), and/or the code I typed in doesn't match (it does - I've double checked every time) --- very frustrating!

When I get that, I know I need to log back in (sometimes mine "times out", and I'm not logged in any more.)

Maybe you are not properly logged in? I have never had to enter the catcha code except when I screwed up and tried to pm two or more people t once.dos coyotes wrote:To clarify - the "code" I'm referencing is the 17XYK4 or whatever magic numbers/letters appear in the box that ou have to match to send a message. Re: Site difficulties
After you type in the recipient's name do you then click the gray "Add" box? When you do that, above the white box you should see "To:" and the person's name. If you don't click "Add" you'll get that "no recipient specified" message.dos coyotes wrote:- it does't go thru, the window reopens telling me I either have not specified a recipient (I did - I actually typed in the name), and/or the code I typed in doesn't match (it does - I've double checked every time) --- very frustrating!
I'm not sure why you're getting that captcha box if you're logged in when you try to send a message. I saw it a few times when I first joined the forum but haven't seen it since.

Nope, I logged out and logged back in --- same thing happens. I simply cannot send a PM.

Re: Site difficulties
Thought perhaps it was a browser problem -- I've found Google Chrome does't work with some programs, but when I tried Safari the same thing happened.

Chute, I was hoping that "Add" box thing was tripping you up and we'd have it solved.dos coyotes wrote:Nope, I logged out and logged back in --- same thing happens. I simply cannot send a PM.
I have a perpetual "(1 new message)" showing when my Inbox is in fact empty. When I was trying to fix it someone suggested I click on "Delete All Board Cookies" at the bottom of the page. It didn't solve my problem but you might as well give it a shot, nothing to lose.
If you want to send a message to the site admin about this let one of us know and we'll get a message sent for you.

Re: Site difficulties
Dos,
Try this: go into your User Control Panel and ADD the person you want to PM under "Friends" once added you can click on "the friend" and navigate to "send PM".
Good Luck,

The captcha code is only required for the first 'n' PMs you send. Eventually the system believes you are not a bot and stops bugging you about it.BlackSpinner wrote:Maybe you are not properly logged in? I also had initial difficulties ... for me the captcha didn't display every time, but there was a place to enter the code. If I didn't notice that I'd get errors. I wonder if that is what is happening for you?
FYI, Chrome works fine here...

Re: Site difficulties
Thanks for the help everyone. Kaisagram - the ADD button seems to have done the trick. Just tried it and sent a PM to you and it went right thru. Hoping as others have said the "catch ya" code will go away after I'm no longer considered a newbie here.
Re: Site difficulties
That annoying code will go away with time. I don't remember exactly what it is tied to...either posts or PMs.dos coyotes wrote: Hoping as others have said the "catch ya" code will go away after I'm no longer considered a newbie here.
It was instigated a while back to prevent members getting spam bot crap. 50 of something comes to mind but don't hold me to that number.
FWIW...I have never been able to just type a person's screen ID and send a PM that way. I either click on their PM button in their Profile or a post they have made and I then changed the subject and remove the duplicate text...or I just use the reply to feature from a PM and change the subject if I want to talk about something different.

Yes dos coyotes, I too am struggling to learn the not-so-user-friendly PM function, but think it's just a matter of getting used to it. Let's persevere, shall we? We can do this!dos coyotes wrote:To clarify - the "code" I'm referencing is the 17XYK4 or whatever magic numbers/letters appear in the box that ou have to match to send a message.
