Four weeks on

Post by Hornpiper » Thu Feb 21, 2013 11:31 am

I have now been sleeping with a CPAP for exactly four weeks. Yesterday I had my follow-up with the sleep doc. From a baseline AHI of 32 in the sleep study, I'm now down to 1.9. Although I still wake up at night when I need to shift position, my sleep has been otherwise undisturbed. My only complaint was that when I first fire up, I felt like I was having a hard time getting enough breath in. My pressure had been 6 to 12. She raised it to 8 to 16 and I had no problems with it last night.

And I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but she pointed out that I had been wearing the mask upside down. As a result, my right nostril was a bit sore. Last night I wore it correctly and, guess what, no irritation.

Well, I hope you don't mess up that great AHI by turning the mask around!

You know having the mask upside down may have contributed to the "not enough air" feeling at 6 cm minimum. If the pillows can't inflate properly air movement can be restricted.
With the increase in minimum and correct positioning of the mask...you should be good to go.

Congratulations on a good report even with a little bump in the road.

With the Swift FX mask, I would sometimes feel restricted airflow on one side,
only to find that the inner cone of that pillow had flipped inside out, turning it into a one-way valve.
The only solution was a new pair of pillows.

Ha, ha... I think we've all gotten the pillows upside down at one time or another. There was a recent thread about it and some red-faced users Oddly enough, one of my best nights was with the pillow hooked into the headgear upside down. Try to explain that!

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
