husband's mask honking throughout the night

My husband's cpap mask honks throughout the night. It continues to wake me up every couple of hours and as it gets closer to morning, I just lay there in bed because its honks before I can drift back off to sleep.

What is causing the mask to honk? Help! I am ready to pull my hair out.

The mask can be a noisy thang'. Please tell us what type of mask he uses. When he exhales, some masks have a flapper that will close to force the air (breath) out the mask, and not back up the hose. This will cause a slamming or snapping sound. The "honking" sound may be the noise he's making forcing the air out of the mask. If you tell us what type of mask he uses, someone who uses that type of mask will be able to tell you if it honks or not.

Mine makes a farting (air escaping around the cheeks) (no pun intended) sound in the morning.. when I go to bed its ok.. I guessing its a mask issue, ill be trying a different one, as it wakes us both up an hour or 2 early.

It is simply leaking between the seal and the skin.

Your husband should refit and readjust the mask following the instructions in the mask owner's manual very carefully. It may take several attempts over several nights to get it just right.

Be patient with your hubby during this process. But do insist he work on the adjustments.

I don't know if all masks are the same, but mine will get the honking/weezing sounds going when there is too much moisture built up inside the mask and where the hose attaches. When mine starts to make noise, I take it off, wipe it all out good with a clean rag I keep on my nightstand, and usually it does the trick. And, as someone else mentioned, a poor seal and leak can be noisy too....but I seem to have the most trouble with moisture condensation causing the noises.

Using ear plugs will not solve your husbands leak problem. Have your husband clean his face to get rid of oil before he masks up. Also he could try a mask liner...they are great for stopping leaks. Check with padacheek.com or remzzzs.com.

Moisture build up from condensation in the hose and mask can make some awful sounds...so be sure to have him check for water in the mask or hose ...we call it rain out. If there is moisture causing the noises there are some things that can be done to reduce it.

Mask leaks also can cause some awful sounds.

So need to figure out what might be causing the noise to be able to fix it.
