Nasal Swelling

Post by lilly747 » Mon Jan 28, 2013 10:58 am

Now that I have my treatment under control, I would like to work on making things better. One of the problem areas is a semi-plugged left nasal passage.

My nasal passage seems to be swelling on the left side. I have always had some nasal drainage and a tendency to have some swelling but has increased since I have been on CPAP. This morning the left side on my nose was about half plugged and after I was up for a couple of hours it cleared completely up. It seemed to be more swelling that congested. I have never changed the temp or humidity setting. I guess it is at whatever default is.

Any ideas of where i might start to address this problem??

Are you using the climate line heated hose or the regular slim line hose?

If you have not seen your physician about this, it might be a good idea.
You could have "something" that needs attention in there.
Likely something simple; but how "lucky" are you?

Thank you for reply. I would like to try first to fix this problem. If I can't, I will see my doctor.

The default setup for the climate line heated hose is for automatic delivery (in the clinical setup menu) of 80 % humidity and with the "automatic" setting the only change that can be made is for temperature.
So you might start with playing with the temperature and see if you notice any relief in symptoms based on temperature selection.
Another option might be to go into the clinical setup menu and change the setting from automatic to patient so that you have independent control of humidity and temperature.

It is very odd that your symptoms appear to only affect one nostril though. Does make me wonder why one side.

Have you tried anything like some saline spray first thing in the AM to see if it reduces the time of congestion?

I use a saline flush at night but have not tried using it in the morning. Right now my nose is a bit runny but no swelling. it is the swelling that seems to be a problem.
