I finally saw a sleep specialist and he reduced my pressure from 11 to 8 because I had been complaining of extreme aerophagia and fragmented sleep (possibly related to the device and/or aerophagia pain). Last night was my first night, and it was odd. Note that my only experience with ANY machine has been 11 nights on my current machine at pressure of 11. Anyway, I found myself confused if it was even on. And at one point I was awake and realized that the mask was on, but my device WAS off.
Anyway, I have to give this pressure a chance. But it seems low. Could my sleep specialist be bringing me down almost too low just to see if I need much at all? My AHI was just as good (< 5) as it was with the pressure of 11.
I know it's been only one night, so I should give it a shot. But I'm wondering why the jump from 11 to 8, rather than from 11 to 10 or even 9. Is 8 really low?

How did you sleep? How do you feel?absurdlyTired wrote:I finally saw a sleep specialist and he reduced my pressure from 11 to 8 because I had been complaining of extreme aerophagia and fragmented sleep (possibly related to the device and/or aerophagia pain). Re: ASV pressure reduction
re: "how did you sleep. how do you feel"...
I had a very strange night. I recall sitting up, confused, at least 3 or 4 times. Also found the machine off (with my mask ON) that time. Also found my mask off at one point, but not sure how long I had been asleep like that.
Anyway, it was very different. Not sure I can judge it quite yet. Tonight might be better. My aerophagia is better (much less) this morning, but I'm just as tired.

I would give it some more time to see how things play out since you're not really sure about the effect. I think in the past this board has advised waiting two weeks before making any changes. But play it by ear.absurdlyTired wrote:re: "how did you sleep. how do you feel"...

Unfortunately, I have unintentionally turned off the machine and taken off of the mask many times. Welcome to the club
All jokes aside, since you're a new user, this is pretty common. This sounds very simplistic but in the past, I have said out loud before going to bed that the mask must stay one. Usually works.
You might want to do a search of the archives for other suggestions. I recall taping it to your face as one. Personally, I prefer the verbal reminder

Re: ASV pressure reduction
you really neeed to know more about the seeting you are talking about.absurdlyTired wrote:I finally saw a sleep specialist and he reduced my pressure from 11 to 8 because
I don't know about the Resmed machines, and I see you have one; but on the Respironics ASV, there are several pressure settings:
Min EPAP
Max EPAP
Min PS (Pressure Support which adds pressure for IPAP over what the EPAP is at the time)
Max PS
Max Pressure (usually Max PS + Max EPAP)
I'm sure there is more than 1 pressure setting on the S9: which one are you talking about?
And is the setting you mention set or adaptive?
Look for settings on that. On the PR SV, you can set it so that it turns on automatically if you put your mask on, it senses it.absurdlyTired wrote: at one point I was awake and realized that the mask was on, but my device WAS off.
I believe there are more S9 ASV users than PR ASV users on the forum, so I hope you will get much better help than from me, once you explain what pressure setting you are referring to.
