SYNOPSIS:
linda b wrote:Sounds like you may be a candidate for plastic surgery!!!!!
yes. starting with my credit cards.
Gidgie wrote:Ric......don't you get the feeling it's trying to tell you something?
"it's broken"?
DVL wrote:Ric, that online sizing page is driving me up the wall also.
Thanks. I feel better already! (yes REALLY!)
reval wrote:I think the Activa is a mask that does not require an exact fit.
Excellent advice, didn't know that! That is VERY helpful!
Selena and/or Julie wrote:and I think you'd probably be fine with a standard unless you have either a particularly prominent nasal bridge
My bridge is even MORE stunningly ordinary than i even want to imagine! The "standard" just sounds right.
NightHawkeye wrote:(because it's a weird mask)
(actually they matched it to my personality.)
mikemoran wrote:Call the folks at CPAP.com and talk to a human.
I had almost forgotten about the phone system. AND humans. (how quaint). Yes, I will do that.
snoozin' bluezzz wrote:Cynical me, wonders if Bill (Nighthawkeye) is correct.
Bill is the official "SANITY CHECKER" on this forum.
If he says the mask is goofy, it's goofy. I trust his advice. .
mousetater wrote:One rep just told me they couldn't give a recommendation if the sizing tool said it wasn't a good mask for me.
Actually I did exchange an email, with pretty much the same result. I don't think I made it clear that the SIZING TOOL IS BROKEN with regards to the Activa™. The exchange was polite. Tomorrow I will take Mike Moran's advice and use the telly. For what it's worth, I scoured the Resmed sites, and found nothing especially helpful. Maybe the size tool is metric, and my face is English? (just a guess).
PhilinOK wrote:Yes, you can just buy the cushion... exact fit is not required
Seriously, this forum has better advice than the nearest 100 "professionals" combined. How many DMEs know that?
Gonzo wrote:The person I talked to said I was firmly in the Standard size, not Large as indicated by crossing.
You are the second person to mention that. I know I would've fallen for the old "wrong size mask" trick, this is GOOD information !

(I think you just did?)

UPDATE: I am still negotiating. In the process I would like to convince the gentle folk at cpap.com that the sizing tool needs a jump start. Meanwhile here is what they suggested, based on my numbers. I'm sure I can find something in my price range:

(I will add that EVERYONE I have dealt with at cpap.com, to-a-one, has been extremely polite and helpful, and several have gone WAAAAAY beyond the call of duty to make sure everything was "just right". THANX Y'ALLZ"

Huh?

Whew . . ., I though you were serious for a second. But I do see already that my posting was misunderstood. I wasn't offering advice, merely stating the obvious.

Bill

UPDATE:

Post by Ric » Fri Apr 21, 2006 6:28 pm

EPILOGUE: I called my local DME this morning and said I was ready to buy a Resmed Activa™, size STANDARD, and that I actually wanted to try it first since the size was an issue. To paraphrase, "they didn't know where I was getting my information, but there is NO SUCH THING!"

okaaaaay.

With the words of mikemoran still ringing in my ear, I called Leslie at cpap.com and ordered it straight out. no hassle. it's already on it's way.(thanks mike. thanks leslie)

(Bill, sorry to disappoint, I just HAD to try it. and plus I did't HAVE one )

Thanks again to all for the "size" alerts. I know I would have been led astray.

EPI-EPILOGUE: I think the sizing page is likely to remain somewhat deceptively semi-inoperable. But it's fun to play with .

Oh no, you thought I was trying to discourage you or be negative about the mask? Heck no, Ric! I was merely offering an explanation for why the sizing guide was acting the way it was. Merely attempting to satisfy intellectual curiosity. It never entered my mind that anything I said would influence your decision in any way. That wasn't the intent. And, obviously, it didn't. .

Regards,
Bill (who has lots of weird stuff, at least according to my daughters)
