Well said Cosmo. Take charge of your treatment, be a demanding consumer, don't be a victim.
I just had a "victory" call with my insurance provider !!!!! They had already paid my DME in full (about a month ago) and they said that since my machine was bought out right (not rented) they have nothing to say about how much I use it....!!! So they considered the call from my DME nothing but "harrassment" !! I thanked them for all of their help....but because of the additional "stress" from my DME they have lost my business!

Aww. That was so sad. --NOT!
Random, weekend robo-calls are completely unprofessional.
If they cared, they would have a live PERSON call, at your convenience,
to offer support and answer YOUR questions.

Way to go Summer! Find a caring DME that WANTS your business, they do exist. If you are paying for supplies out of pocket, cpap.com has some of the best prices. You can also search around for price as well. If you need hoses, just the plain kind, PM me once your PM button is working again & I'll be glad to send you some. Also, anyone out there needing just plain 6ft hoses, PM me as well, I've got a bunch.

You are doing great so far, just keep up the good work & let us know how we can help. And keep kissing the frog, she is a great helper when you need her.
Jen

I work for a DME - not a big nationwide chain-just a local one. We do not have a teleprompt machine to call our patients to see if they are compliant but we do have a customer service rep that calls all of our MDCR pts to see if they are complaint and to ask if they have seen their doctor (per MCDR requirement). My guess is that the bigger companies have soooo many MDCR pts that its easier just to call all their cpap pts and have a computer / teleprompter machine ask the questions. Sorry for the bad experience you had and good luck. as an FYI-I've had pts go through problems like you are going through and they stick it out and try new mask and ask for advice etc..and lo and behold one day they start sleeping longer and start feeling better and now they cant imagine life without their cpap machine. So hang in there...

I know! I know! Today, was a very good day..... ! My doctor appt. went well, many questions were answered...and a very heavy burden was lifted when the insurance told me that the machine was "all mine", now, and I don't have to answer to anyone!! THAT PRESSURE WASN'T HELPING! So I am truly breathing a "sigh of relief"....I also feel like I have support, now...people who also know what it's like to go through this.....so the encouragement has really given me a "boost" ,also, and I feel like I am getting a "fresh start", today! I need to put a post on the thread about having a " dry throat"....that it does seem to help to turn the heat down? I found out, today, that the humidity always stays the same...so it is just the heat that can be adjusted..Did you notice that there is a DME on this thread? I don't want to take advantage....but isn't that a nice little perk?

If you don't mind a trip or two to federal way, there is a good dme with st Francis hospital. It's in a different building, but same area. That is where I switched to. And they will mail me supplies. You wouldn't have to go in often. They got my special order headgear, no hesitation. It arrived in the mail less than a week after I asked for it.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I am already getting things "lined up" so that the things I need can be mailed to me! I love your "kitty", on the avater! I have a couple of "kitties" and I am pretty sure that I am allergic to them....? I just could never give them up, I am afraid? It is so nice having "allergies", while wearing a full face mask! (just another "little issue" I could add to the mix!)

I'm allergic to dogs. We have two shelties

I used to a have a sheltie who would sleep under the covers. My mom is allergic to both cats and dogs, and she has always had both. I have allergies and asthma, and I am just used to waking up and having to blow my nose. I'm also allergic to a bunch of other stuff - dust, mold, flowers, perfume, trees, etc. So, I'm pretty much guaranteed to have allergies year round, regardless of what is living in the house with me. I am very glad that we finally got some rain though. The air was getting pretty bad this past week.

Oh! I just realized that we live in the same area! I have heard that this is one of the worst areas for "pollens" in the air ! Especially in the spring? Sorry to hear you are having such a struggle with allergies!!!! NOT FUN !!! I guess you probably have the "air purifier", the "hypo allergenic pillows" and such? Best of luck to you! I know how hard it is to part with our sweet pets...... Maybe we need to move to Florida? I think those hurricanes would make pretty good "air cleaners"?

There's pollen when it is dry and mold when it is wet. But I grew up here, so I am used to it. We tried some air purifiers a long time ago, but they didn't help that much, and they made noise. I hate white noise.

Most of the time, my allergies aren't too bad. I carry kleenex and blow my nose a lot. But no major problems, unless the air quality is really bad. I do use allergy medication when things are worse.
